Hi tykey,

We walked into the village of Misterton but didn't notice the pub on the Canalside.  There is a pub with lovely beer garden directly at the site entrance to the Campsite at Stockwith, and it too is  called 'The Waterfront' and is at the side of the Canal.

We will most deffinitely be going again so will watch out for the pub at Misterton.

Denise.

Hi

I think the pub was the Packet Inn but the last time we called i'm sure it had closed down. The food there was spot on with massive portions.

The Packet Inn is in Retford, about a mile from where i live, lies at the side of the canal almost in the town centre and re opened around 12 months ago. Also a micro brewery now. Its a very friendly working mans pub that does great value meals.

I think the one Denise is talking about has now closed, was it near a bridge? I cannot think of another one in that area but my bus route takes me up that way in a couple of weeks so will have a nosy.

Have a look at this one , not too far away. It has varied reviews including my own, but depends what your needs/requirements are of a camp site.

River on site,Cromford canal within walking distance. Lots of great walking to be had from here.

Hi Bill, the one I'm talking about is still open, or it was when we stayed at the site at West Stockwith on Bonfire Night.  It's just over the bridge, on the left hand side and the campsite entrance is immediately left, after the pub.

Is the Packet Inn close enough to walk to from the campsite, I likes a walk before I partake of the falling down stuff !!!

By the way, thanks for starting this thread Bill and thanks to everyone who has given information - I've saved all the sites to my virtual brochure and looking forward to visiting some of them next year.

Have to hold my hands up, the pub in Misterton was also called The Packet. It is now closed down tho

Cockerspadgers, The pub your talkin about is the Waterfront, see my pics link at the bottom. The Packet iInn in Retford is around a 15 mile walk along the canal, so yes it is walkable but maybe a little to far to walk in a day unless you want to catch the bus one way. There is a good pub crawl along the canal fromClarborough into Retford, we do it quite often .

Would also like to thank all contributers. Never know, if there is enough interest we might even get a mini meet together lol.

Hi Bill - Not on canals, but rivers, and not sure of distance from where you are, but two in Cambridgeshire come to mind. Northey Lodge on the outskirts of Peterborough - we've stayed at that one, lovely site, nice and quiet, also has caravan storage and washing facilities, and the River Nene is right across the road from the site. Also Riverside Caravan & Camping Park on the outskirts of Ely - we went to look at that one last summer with view to staying there, small site, nice and quiet, with the Great Ouse right across the road. A few hundred yards along the road and across the river is a pub that does a nice meal. Both these are in campsite search.

Bill, there was one listed in last month's Caravan Club magazine.

It's called the White Bear Marina Caravan Park, Adlington in Lancashire.  Have you heard of it?  I tried to do a search on here but found nothing and the website doesn't say much, only that there are 10 serviced touring pitches.

It's adjacent to the Leeds Liverpool Canal & I've put the post code into google earth to look at the site.  Can't make out the caravan park but the Marina looks a good size.

It might be too far for you to travel.  According to our route planner, it's about 1hr 15 minutes from Barnsley.

Canal side adult only (yippee!!)near Whitchurch. Right by the canal, as the name suggests with gate onto tow path. Nice pub across the road and super little shop/cafe 5 minutes walk up the canal by the locks. Looking forward to a return visit asap!
