Lauder is a lovely little site although we didn't try the bus service. There is a good pub a few yards from the entrance and Lauder is a nice little town. It is still a fair way from Edinburgh though and if you were going to the Tattoo you certainly wouldn't be back before the gate is-. locked at 11pm. There is a small overnight carpark outside.

We stayed at Slatebarns last years for two weeks out of an eight week tour of Scotland and found it a lovely site I can`t think why Margery Daw wasn`t impressed The site itself was lovely, the owners fantastic, a lovely village, friendly people.the only downside were all the idiots who having seen the film, read the book -so of course it`s Gospel set in stone decided to descend on the Rosslyn Chapel en masse creating mayhem on private roads to the site causing obstructon etc I did see in Dec Caravan club Magazine Allan thanking past customers for their support, don`t ` know if they are closing completely and selling up or just not affliated any more

If you are trying to get into Mortonhall and they say they are full, don't despair. They gave us the same response for Edinburgh festival/ tattoo time a couple of years ago but we arrived without a booking and there was plenty of space and we stayed there for a week. It is a lovely site too, and buses run all day and on the hour during the night so you can really enjoy the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Only drawback for us was that it is a slog into town from the site so you don't want to do more than one return journey every day which means eating out and taking spare clothes etc. #We have styed ina b&b for the last 2 years for that reason :-(
