We love Swanage. We often go just for a day out though we,ve never camped there.
I did a search a couple of weeks ago and there's quite a few sites around Swanage and Corfe, not within walking distance but on a bus route.

Mablethorpe ? Nice, quiet, huge beach and a decent Haven site within a walk of the town.

Hi everyone this is my first post on this site.

How about Tenby / Saundersfoot area? There are plenty of caravan parks and hotels in and around the area and it's suitable for old & young alike. Also no 'rowdies' to speak of.

Another Swanage fan here. Ulwell Cottage http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=ulwell+cottage&by=sitename campsite is walkable to town - although at the far end. Very expensive too from what I recall!!

We love Swanage but there is deffo a shortage of modern prebookable, clean and pleasant campsites there. We have camped at Burnbake http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=burnbake&by=sitenameon many occassions but the facilities are basic and the weekends can get busy and sadly sometimes rowdy. We now usually camp quite a but further out at Wareham forest  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=wareham+forest&by=sitename because the site is of a decent standard.

We have been told about Norden Farm http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=norden+farm&by=sitename which is alos just outside of Swanage - there is a steam train nearby that runs in and out of Swanage and Corfe. We have not been to this site yet so cannot say for sure what it is like.

I would also recommend Dartmouth I have stayed here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=deer+park&by=sitename  on several occassions and on UKCS meets in the past and loved the site. It is walkable into town but a bit of a trek down some rather narrow lanes. The site has been sold off to the C&CC since last summer so there may have been some changes.

what about Sutton on sea in lincolnshire, just had a brilliant weekend there it was like being in a 1950s time warp and that's not a criticism.Stayed at the cherry tree site which was 5 star adults only.would recommend highly.

Don't even think about the Lincolnshire Coast, especially Mablethorpe or Skegness unless slot machines, tacky beach shops and a general feeling of being run down are at the top of your list!

One exception to this - Sutton on Sea - traditional small seaside town with lovely beach.

Dartmouth, lovely and historic. Or what about Bude on the North Cornwall coast?

Otherwise would agree with Lyme Regis, best place ever and I quite like the old-style quaintness of Sidmouth, there is a lovely Donkey Sanctuary close by (which is free!) which appeals to young & old. And there's Branscombe nearby, very pretty plus lots of lovely East Devon chocolate box villages. Great pubs with pretty gardens to eat in too. Don't miss Sunday lunch at The Masons Arms in Branscombe, only be there on the dot of 12 or you won't get a table (or pre-book?!)

I find the other part of Dorset, Swanage etc is just too busy in the summer, too many cars and too crowded on the roads.

let us know your final choice, I have been making notes of the other recomended places in Wales as we are going there this summer.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the input on this one, definitely what I was after with some places I would never have even considered! That said, I think this year we will go for either Swanage or Lyme Regis as it is the only holiday of the year that my Nan & Grandad get, and I know there are lots of places they would enjoy visiting nearby! Me and my girlfriend will be trying out some of the other places suggested though, as a recce for future years!

Thanks again!
