A bad year last year, camping becoming more popular and people using more EHU etc. all reasons for prices going up!

What other type of holiday can a family of 4 or 5 have for £25 to £30 per night? We think most campsites, particularly C&CC sites offer very good value for money.

If you think campsites are too expensive then don't use them and find some other type of holiday for less money - I think you may find this difficult though.

Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

But there can't be many holidays, other than camping, that a couple can go on for less than £25 a night either. Even a seedy guest house would charge more than that. And the advantage with camping/caravanning is that you don't have to sleep in a lumpy bed that has been slept in by hundreds of other people, you can get up when you want to and you can have your meals when you want them etc.

The C&CC have age concessions for the over 50's so if you go to one of their sites out of high season you pay even less.

This is a real headache area for the 'smaller privately owned campsite' we have this issue year on year what do we charge, obviously we are running a business and thus not only have to pay the ever increasing bills but also we as owners do have to live off something!?  As a smaller park my hubby 'went out to work' to support our living costs so that we could develop and run our park.

We don't want to penalise a couple in a medium sized tent whilst also we don't have the amenities to be able to offer totally free pitches for all!!!  Likewise we don't want to charge families over the odds for camping - IMO it is supposed to be a 'cheaper' alternative.

This year we have charged per adult and per child rather than per pitch, we have also stated very clearly our maximum pitch size.  Hence the couple in the camper don't get penalised by having to pay for a 'family pitch' and the family 'pay for what they use'.  We also don't charge 'ontop' for showers etc this is included in the price.

We can now only wait for the influx to see if this system works however I do wonder how many will take advantage - hook up to the electric without paying or  slide that extra person / child into the tent who 'decided' to come on holiday.... I guess only time will tell.

Domino666 - I guess you have had to pay for two pitches due to the legal requirements of the parks 6 metre spacing between etc.

Just as a point to note we are not all 'greedy campsite owners'.

Jakers,I understand where your concerns are,as you say,       We can now only wait for the influx to see if this system works however I do wonder how many will take advantage - hook up to the electric without paying or  slide that extra person / child into the tent who 'decided' to come on holiday.... I guess only time will tell. I have seen this happen on sites, they plug a three way connection into the EHU and feed two units, and you see a car with two people erect a tent or come in a caravan and before you know it there are there are four in the tent or van,and thank you for your time to visit the posts, seems at least one site owner is looking at the posts on  UKCampsite.co.uk

despite popular belief we do actually like customers!!! there are a few site owners who read the boards and we do take note of what's said ( if justified) and adapt accordingly.

All the best

Hi there, jakers isnt the only site owner on the forum who comments - in one way it would be good if all sites had a system for charging then the clients would know where they were.  But ..... all sites are different and we all have different opinions as to what is fair.  However, i do feel that the simpler pricing structure is the best however it is worked out.  Its a difficult one and no doubt will be talked about time and time again.
