They are probably assistants taking the rules to the absolute. Unless you are entitled to an age consession as a member you are allowed to stay in a members unit as a guest without paying the non members fee so you wouldn't need a membership card. Sorry, not well put but do you understand? The non member pitch fee refers to the pitch not a person in a members unit.

It was not the assistants - they were all very friendly - it was Mrs. manager. She started saying she was going to make a compaint to their Area Manager about this - which gave me the impression that the complaint would be about us but when I challenged her she decided the complaint would be about the other sites "not doing their job properley". No wonder she never even looked our way for the rest of the week.

We've only ever had to show one of our cards at club sites.   They looked our details up and booked us in no problem.

Does the CC&C have the same system as the CC where a family has one membership but two cards? It does seem that someone is interrupting the rules incorrectly. Perhaps an e-mail or letter to the membership department would result in sites being reminded of what is required.

David

You think so David?

Correspondance is not the strong point of the C&CC

Yes David, The membership does cover a family of 2 adults at the same address ( could be same sex) and children at that address under 18. As to a letter to membership dept, can I suggest you address a complaint about staff on club sites to the Sites Director. Membership dept actually have nothing to do with the club sites. Complaints do get through to the HSMs as do letters of praise. In 14 years as Managers we actually got 2 letters of complaint compared with uncountable letters of praise. Granted we did try and retire in 2001 but did several sites afterwards when asked. I can't think the rules have changed much since then. I hope this helps.

Its certainly not a C&CC club site so you won't need a C&CC club membership, and I don't think any CC site is called a 'camp' so I think you are quite safe without a 'card'. Just enjoy it.

In answer to original posting, yes that happened this year.  We went to Chertsey C&CC site.  I handed over my membership card but receptionist insisted they needed to see OH's card too.

Steve

I  also went to the chertsey c&cc site this last weekend and gave my membership card as normal but then the receptionist asked for my wifes card as well, good job I always carry both of them.

I've never been asked to show both of our membership cards, i normally carry both in my purse.

In fact on two occasions i haven't shown a card at all, although neither time was an actual club site, once was on a CS when i forgot to pick them up from next to the phone at home , and the other on a forest holidays site when i still had last years cards in my purse , they were very understanding both times.

I can't see why they need to see both cards on club sites as the membership number is identical so all the details of joint membership will be there on the computer, but if that's whats happening more i'd better check my purse more thoroughly in future!

Surely according the their rules if you are in only one unit then so long as one of you is a member then that's what counts.

We used to be members and only ever had to show one card (if any) when booking in.

They have all your details on computer from the booking you made so can easily check that you are then actual memeber by asking for a debit/credit card, driving license to confirm your identity - after all you could be using somone elses membership card but would you be using someone elses debit card?

Razskull   you have to join the caravan club (CC) or the Camping and Caravanning Club (C&CC  or The Friendly Club).

You pay a yearly memebership fee and get a membership number/card and can book at any of their sites at a members rate - thus saving money on site fees.  Think it's about £40 a year (please correct me if wrong).

Not all sites CC or C&CC require you to be member to book a pitch but youpay more than a member would.

Have I got this correct??

We aren't members anymore as we didn't find some site managers helpfull or very friendly when we needed help or advise whilst we were new to it all (or particularly child friendly) - other members and campers were excellent and we learned a great deal from them and met some wonderful people.

I think they may have had cases where people have "borrowed" cards from friends or rellies in order to get members rates at C&CC sites, by asking for both cards they can check that both names/membership numbers are the same and tally with their records. I think the time will come when a photo has to be put on the card in order to eliminate this sort of dishonesty or they require other forms of ID to confirm that you are who you say you are.
