i very much doubt that my orchy 5 would comfortably suit 5 people ................. i doubt me, hubby and my 2 teenagers would be comfortable in it ............ and you sound like you begrudge me a 5 man tent for the 2 of us .......... isn't yours an 8 man tent for 5?

for my trip in august i am paying £26.00 per night .......... do i mind............. no...........why........ because its august and i expect to pay those prices in the height of the season .............. i am just shocked at how much the prices have bumped up this year on sites................ and a cheap weekend for me and hubby is now more expensive than a travel lodge (not as much fun i know lol)

If you only need a basic site to test out your tent why not look for a CS near to you, likely to be a few pounds less.

Be fair maybe the site in question are trying to redress the balance, after all for years we have moaned about the prices of holidays within school holiday periods so now they have decided in the interest of fairness to charge everyone extorniate (sp) prices!

Gilly I think it's expensive for just the two of you.

We are going for a week after Easter weekend - 2+2, ehu, toilets and showers and small shop all for £12 a night.

I August we are going with more facilities _ laundry area, play area, indoor rooms with TV, dog facilities etc (no bar of entertainment - thank goodness) and it's only £18ish per night for us then and with the added bonus of a lovely friendly owner.

When we go to Pillaton I think with ehu it's only £13 a night(family of 4 and tent and ehu) isn't it so Yes £15 a night for the two of you is a little on the high side for end of April.

Saying that I have looked at sites and though yes, perfect for us and then added up the different supplements for children, ehu and had a real shock - needless to say we are not staying on those ones.

There are just 2 of us and we don't have EHU - I wouldn't mind paying up to £15 a night if the showers were decent and washing up facilities were available. That's only £30 for a weekend, less than the cost of a meal out if we stay at home! Over that though seems excessive, especially when you are getting into over £20 for not many extra facilities.

I do read the Guardian though, so maybe I have unrealistic expectations and should be banned from camping....

No Gilly, I certainly dont grudge you having a large tent. Quite the opposite. Sometimes I dont get the point im trying to make across in the best way. What im meaning is, that the footprint you're tent takes is that of a family tent, and as most sites charge by tent and 2 adults plus car, its not too bad a price because of the size of your tent. I totally agree with you that your tent would be uncomfortable with 5 sleeping in it. You're quite right that I have an 8 person tent sleeping 5, but as you say, 8 people in even our tent would be totally uncomfortable.   However, most sites i visit charge according to the size of the tent, then how many are sleeping in it. What I was trying to say is that if you took a small 2 person tent to the same site and they charged you £15. To me that would be far too excessive - based on the size of footprint a 2 person tent takes up compared to the tent you have (based on my experiences with sites and the crazy way they price.). I dont mean to offend you or anyone else on the forum, so please accept my apologies if thats what ive done.

i apologise dezzie i thought you were having a dig.sometimes points do come across the wrong way on here.

my main point is that all this site has is a toilet and shower , they may be very nice toilets andshowers but i still think its a bit pricey. i accept after having a good look on here i will be paying £15-00 per night for2 but that will atleast have a wash up area included on most sites.

John Chapman, 01472 753901. As far as I am aware there are no separate washing up facilities. You can find the entry in the Big Sites Book on sheet 113.

Hey Gilly. wherever you end up, I hope you have a great time.   Im thinking - No wash up facilities - £15 is a bit steep for just a field, toilet and shower. Thankfully most of the sites charging that usually have all you need.   Pity you arent further North. There are a few fab CS sites.
