Hi,

we have visited Dunstan Hill C&C Club site for the last three years, its beautiful and unspoilt up there.
The beaches are beautiful, some of the best in the UK and so uncrowded.Go to Embleton Bay which is five minutes by car from the site.
There is also the little fishing village of Craster just down the road....Kippers.mmm
Go up the coast to Seahouses(where you can get a boat out to the Farne Islands to see the Puffins) and you must visit Holy Island.
Go south down the coast to Druridge Bay Country Park which is right by the beach.
Oh and then there's the castles, more in Northumberland than anywhere in the UK.Best ones Alnwick and Banburgh

Druridge Bay

Beware of dead seals at Embleton Bay, our Newfy decided to roll in a rotten one. It was 10 years ago, so it's probably gone now

More seriously, Alnmouth beach is a great place, huge beach, and you park with your front wheels almost in the sand!!

Sugar sands, at Longhoughton is semi-private and deserted, although sometimes the cattle join you. The road goes through a gated farmyard, but don't worry, it's a public road down to the beach.

Perhaps it's only me, but I found Bamburgh Castle a great disappointment. The vast majority is Victorian and the only historical bit is the keep, and you don't see much of that. The view over the huge beach is brilliant, though.

If you like walking, park your car at Bamburgh and walk along the beach for fish and chips at Seahouses. Even better if someone will drive to pick you up

We're going back to Northumberland next week (not camping!) having been last year.  It was fantastic.  As others have said, Alnwick Gardens are great and very child friendly - would recommend a change of clothes for the kids.  We saw a school party who were absolutely drenched last year (including teachers!)  Don't know how old yours are but our toddler loved filling up the scoops on the mini tractors with water from the main water feature..... and dumping it over my toes!  There's also a lovely restaurant there built as a giant treehouse.  I haven't eaten there yet but plan to book a table this time around.

Hope you don't mind me sneaking in a question of my own but does anyone know any good spots for rockpooling?

Oh boy...thank you SO MUCH everyone!! You've given me loads to think about! I'm really glad we're visiting such a 'well appointed' part of the country :-)
