Shhh Oldham, let's not big them up too much

One of our favourites has upgraded and now has a toilet block so that's off our list of places to go (we also don't live near there anymore).

They will be basic, that's why they are CS's and that's why they are cheap. Mainly you won't get entertainment on site, you won't get a shop (you might get a farmer who'll flog you eggs though) but you will get a CDP and a tap and in most cases peace, quiet and space.

We've identified another couple to try this year, both close to home so we can go away for a quiet weekend and still be close to home if Dad has any difficulties.

Does anyone use the C &CC certificated sites?  I've tried to look some up on the campsite search but not many appear.  Would appreciate a general opinion.

The answer is yes

the reason for not putting reviews on is if they get to popular then they upgrade to full services campsites and our little bit of heaven is gone.

Once you have found your magical place then you keep quiet about it.

Over the years been to many and have several that if I told you where they are I would have to kill you.

Once you have a toilet and washing facilities in your camping gear then all these places are available to you.  The cost of setting up these items are soon covered by the reduced rates that you pay.

The CS sites are another world compared to commercialised sites and once visited it is hard to go back to commercialised sites again.

So it's not just us that feels this way then - glad about that cus we don't want to tell anyone about our favourite welsh cs

Idiot question coming up: What is a CL or CS site please? And why are some of the sites on the map search burgundy and some green?

Thankyou!

Green tents are sites that have listed full details, and red tents are sites that have not added their full details.

CL Certified Location - affliated to the Caravan Clun

CS Certifcated Sites - affliated to the Camping & Caravan Club

CL's and CS's are both members only of their respective clubs.

Yes, we also use CS sites. Have used Rowlestone Court which another poster is going to - my favourite so far! Some do have a few facilities like a toilet and/or shower and they can be in a pub garden or on a farm so not always dead silent quiet.

If they are adult only then they will say so.  Hideaways marked with a red H attract the quiet ones.   Got to say that as we use the farm sites most times we are alone. When we have been on with others then the kids play together.   When with just older adults then playing without shouting and screaming is order of the day.  You will be pleasantly surprised how quickly the sprogs get into the flow of a quiet site.

We take the boules, kite , soft sponge ball and  shuttlecock any have a great time.  Threatened gags and straight-jackets a few times but never needed to use them

The reason that not many are listed on the campsite search is because, as Ratty says, they are Club Members Only Sites.

If you want to use them, join the club and get the information on their whereabouts direct from the club.

CLs, CSs and THSs are all there for the use of the apropriate Club's Members. That is why we are members of both the CC and the C&CC and make full use of all their types of sites.

I have read many letters on this Forum asking why people should join either of the two big camping/caravanning clubs. Surely this has to be one of the main reasons.

CS's can all be seen on the C&CC website, follow the link to Siteseeker, then amend the search fields to show Certificated Sites only.   You can then see the location as well as seeing a Google Map style image of the location.

But why would one want to look at sites that one cannot use unless one joined the club that they are attached to?

Just got back from a CS.  Two toilets, two showers,CDP and water. £8 per night with EHU.  We count as a tent (folding camper) so don't count as one of their 5 vans. Well worth the £36 per year to join the C&CC just to be able to use these sites.
