have not the C.C. brought in sanctions against members who fail to turn up without cancelling?

Bertie.

So is there any way of serching for sites that do not have a 3 or more night min stay? or do you just have to drop on? I did found a couple by luck, and they were all fully booked.

Just goes to show, doesnt matter what tactic campsites take over bank holidays there are always campers looking to take what they can get... looks like well just have to try ringing around last minute, and being disapointed.. lol

Guess i'll be gardening this bank holiday weekend :(

This is the very reason I tend to sort out and book our "must have" dates/locations several months in advance..not very "spur of the moment" I know but it saves any last minute panic and frustrations..

..and to be fair, these up coming BHs(..with Easter/School hols/Royal wedding)were always going to be busy.

(..and they haven't exactly crept up on us unannounced... )

Hope you manage to get sorted...

(..I would recommend joining one of the clubs for the CLs & CSs though..)

I was very disappointed to find two wonderful-looking campsites which you can only book for a whole week during school holidays. As I am a teacher, I have no choice but to go during the school holidays, and it's soul-destroying stuff trying to book a holiday. I prefer to go camping for a few days during the week, rather than at weekends, and thankfully I prefer the smaller, quieter, more basic sites which are often more flexible.

I know campsites / B&Bs / holiday cottages would say that they don't increase their prices during the peak periods, they decrease it at other times, but it doesn't make any different to me. I want to go and slit my wrists after finding place after place that doubles or even triples the prices during school holidays (often even for the February half term!) But unfortunately, so long as people will pay those prices, people will continue to charge them. Thankfully there are still sites out there that are still flexible with bookings and not bank-breakingly expensive. I feel very sorry for families, though.

It does make me cross when sites say there is a minimum of 4 or 5 nights for a BH weekend - the BH only gives you 1 extra day off work not 2 or 3!

I know they are a business and are out to maximise their profits (don't have a problem with that) but I do feel that they alienate campers who probably fill their sites at other times of the year too, not just BH weekends.

However, the demand for pitches for 4 or 5 nights for a BH is obviously there or we wouldn't be struggling to find a last minute pitch!!
