i was recently at the new barnard castle site for a couple of nights and got talking to one of the wardens. i was saying the same thing to him - how it can sometimes be difficult to get booked on certain sites. he told me that ALL cc sites keep some pitches back and if we were having difficulty, to phone the site.

i have today booked two nights for this weekend on the cc site at low manesty nr keswick. the cc website said that there was no availability, but a quick call to the site confirmed a few places left.

i also find that if you keep checking the availability that they quite often come up as the weekend gets nearer and people cancel their reservation.

hope this helps.

simon.

Thats a good idea, then people who aren't out at work can scour their site regularly and get even more of an advantage in the booking race.

why on earth would anybody who doesnt work  do that when they can obviously go away whenever they feel fit ?  therefore avoiding weekends bank holidays and peak times. If I was in that fortunate position I certainly wouldnt be fighting to book on at these popular times , Id have no need to because I would be away  mid week when the rest of the world is grafting .

this will sound crazy but to book the sites i WANTED for the year ahead i would phone the caravan club the moment it opened its phone line it used to be 7th dec ?????.
i found that if i didnt do this i would have to take alternatives and sometimes not get a pitch in the same area, one year i left it late and tried to book in March
waste of time (didnt use the club that year)
left all that behind and have now booked a seasonal pitch for 2011
looking forward to hassel free carvaning pack a bag and go
