We used nothing but CL's, apart from one, for our  Holidays this year and it was lovely. We started in Dumfries and Galloway (CL) then went to the Club Site at Clachan before returning to the Scottish Borders near Kelso (CL) and then on down to Thirsk (CL). In September we went to the Scottish Borders again just outside Jedburgh (CL) and then down to just outside Settle (CL). Every CL was good, we used Google Maps prior to bnooking. We intend to use CL's again next year for our main holidays.
Hi, what were the CL's in the Borders like - Kelso and Jedburgh?  Were either of them within walking distance to pub and did they have views?  I've not been to the Borders yet, going for first time next week to CC site at Melrose but do fancy trying out the smaller sites.  thanks

Scotland is on my to do's list, but not sure when i would be able to get there, prob have to do an overnite stop on the way up and back down,

we normally only do 1 week and as many weekends as possible. i think 2 weeks in Scotland would not be long enough, to much to do and see as never been up there.

You're right - Scotland is a big country, so don't even try to see all of it (or even all the tourist highlights) in one hit. My advice - start off in the South East or the Borders.

OP's from Essex - so South East easier to get to for him. I do love the South West (Dumfries and Galloway) region, too.

It is a lot of area to cover and prob need a bit more planning than just picking a site as with kids in the car it would be a long journey up there and back  but def something i will do within the next couple of years as were off to Cornwall next year.

i do like the look of the cl in beecles (rowan craft) that Johnjory mention that might be worth a long weekender.

Don't forget the Caravan and Camping Club have 'Family Friendly' CS's (their equivalent of CL's) which might be of more use to you.

We are only members of the c. club, but have looked on the c.c.c. web site and like the idea of family friendly cs being listed, saves alot of trawling through pages.

We use nothing but CLs and CS sites, they are quieter admittedly, but they offer exceptional value, so you can afford more days out. Look also for holiday camps, these are like CLS, but have more units on and are open suring the summer months. Like a CL they have restricted facilities but there will eb moer units on site, so more friend oppourtunities.

OK, dumb question time and I can't find an obvious answer. I figured out that a CS is a Camping and Caravan Club Certificated Site, but what's a CL?
