We usually walk all the way around ,the whole walk isn't next to the Lake though ,it takes in famland and some hills ,its a good walk .We usually do it backwards ,starting in Keswick and finishing at the Theater by the Lake so that the more strenuous ( nothing too strenuous though) bits are at he start and the latter part seems to follow the lake and even has its own path .

You can pick up a guide for the walk from the visitor information in Keswick ,we managed to follow it and we are not known for for our map reading abilities

If you walk like us ( stopping to admire the view ,have a swim in little alcoves of the lake ,sunbath etc along the way + getting lost and making the odd detour ) then allow about 8 hours.

You can take dogs into the Dog & Gun, the Bank Tavern, the Twa Dogs and several other pubs in and around Keswick.  Most of the non-food shops also allow dogs.

It is about 9 miles - the route I took was 9.6 miles and only took just under an hour and a half.

 Its not too far then. Certainly something we could do in half a day then spend the  rest relaxing or shopping!

 Good to hear there won't be any cows - whilst I think they are lovely creatures finding I once had to cross a field of 30 rather large Aberdeen Angus put me off cross farm land for life lol
