Most tropical insect repellant have deet in it, available from all good chemists. The higher the deet content the better, but make sure you spray it outside and dont get it near your eyes. Best check you can use it on children too, it is strong stuff!!
As for midgies - we have thunderbugs but not biting midgies. Our sister park Crows Nest which is right on the coast do not have anything at all.
