Kaolab, you understand exactly what I was trying to get at. Although most fellow campers will be only too pleased to help,(and my husband and I would be first in the queue, we have often helped other people) you can't rely on someone being there just when you need them.
How about 2 small pop-up tents ? We have a Quechua 3 man pop-up. It sleeps 2 comfortably, so 2 of these would fit you all in. You can't stand up in them though.
I hope you find the right sort of tent. Plenty of people pitch singe-handed, if you go to the TENT TALK forum and put the word 'single' into the search box, you will get lots of threads, some from single mums, asking the same as you.

koalab,

I'm not sure too many people will help out these days. How old are those kids? If they're too little to help will they stay in the car with a dvd? If they're over 7 or so they can help. There are loads of tent pitching videos on Youtube for you to get a feel for what you might be able to pitch.

Some of those big tunnel tents are easy as you put all the poles in, insert the tension pins in the end of the poles (you can slacken the straps if you can't get the pins in), then the whole thing concertinas up/out and you just need someone to hold one end while you peg out the other end. Once you've got the ends pegged the rest is easy.

Thanks Sarah, i want to know I can cope alone with it, just need to get some advice in other forums for the best tent (thanks Liz for the tips). My eldest is 6, and very helpful, but my youngest is 3 and a lovely little devil, who is much more of a hinderance, lol!!

And the link to 'glamping' sites is great!! I never knew, because I have spent many weeks away in static caravans on big sites, but this is the first time I went away in a tent, in a forest, and I had so much more fun! I loved the camaraderie on site. But long term I want the whole works, so me and the boys can go away for random weekends in glorius places.

I think they may be quite expensive compared to tents with poles but we saw a blow-up tent at towsure that may be worth looking at. It was a family sized tunnel tent and the sections where you would normally put the poles through blew up in seconds and become quite sturdy and rigid. We were really impressed with how easy it would have been to erect. Maybe worth considering then you wouldnt have to worry.

hi in my experience fellow campers would help you out espically if your on your own with children , recently saw a tent with no poles i think it was a vango 2 bedroom tent all tou do is peg it down at the four corners and with the pump provided blow the tubes up then peg out the guys hope this helps

Hi. I think I was the person helped if it was at Fforest Fields August last year. I worried about pitching tent solo after osteo-arthritis got worse. Help was invaluable, as pitching would have taken much longer Meant I kept camping. Had corrective surgery and this year I've been able to camp and even solo pitch in heavy rain. Thanks again to all who helped.

If anyone, particularly single mum with young children, is unsure about pitching, then ask on here first and state which campsite. Someone might be able to help. I still marvel that people I've never met could pick up my request, relay it to others who came and helped.

I offered to help a large tent that arrived yesterday, with one young child just as it started raining. Big problem is all tents are different and it can be more of a hinderance

, what I have done thou is offer to watch the kids for 1/2 hour while they get sorted. (I do have children running around of my own which helps)
