Kelling Heath in North Norfolk was on the One Show a few months ago, as being one of the places in the country with the lowest amount of light pollution.

We stayed there for a week in April and had a great time. Admittedly, the stars didn't look that much clearer than several other campsites I've been to, but I'm no expert.

Wow, what a lovely post! This is what camping is about. Being surrounded by light at night living in a city but brought up in the country I totally get this. I am not in your neighbourhood, but can recommend sites up near Kirkbymoorside if you have a bit longer to get away. The CS at Fadmoor is good with wonderful views over the moors in the distance. Good visability. Tractors up and down all the time but that only affects your ears....LOL! Good luck!

Someone I work with is very keen on stargazing and he recommends Lucksall, near Hereford.  I think he said they have their own rallys, they had one in March, but I don't know if it's just an anual event.

Apparantly Rivendale in the Peak District is good for star gazing, they only have minimal solarlighting so the site is pretty  dark at night. J x

If you don't already have it - this might be a helpful thing to have to hand when planning your trips.
