We had fun at the weekend with the LIDL one, and will take it next time for fun,
Hubby now looking to get a decent one that will be his and the grown ups only, and not just for fun so any tips advice on buying a good one appreciated.

i used our again yesterday in a 1 ft swell and it was great. Very stable. I then watched a hard sit on kayak which glided through the water, so if you want an easy to store and fun kayak then the inflatable is great and really recommend it but if you want to go for longer journeys and possibly fish off then have a look at the hard ones. Obviously more awkward to store and transport.
They have a couple in COSTCO at the moment. I'm not certain of the price but I think they were approx £130+ the dreaded. They do have the usual COSTCO guarantee where you can take them back for a refund if you don't like 'em!
(Use it for the summer then return as unsuitable for what you want - i.e. money)
------------- Some days you are the dog,
some days you are the tree.
We have a Sevylor Yukon and a Wildwater K2 Sport ... got both on ebay at under £200 ... very good value for this class of boat ... will do up to white water grade III or IV.
They pack away brilliantly for touring, plus the bikes, we now have all varieties ... except a glider (now there's an idea!) ... or, maybe, a hot air balloon.

I went into COSTCO yesterday and they have 3 models in stock. The collapsible one is a Hudson and works out at £300. (Gulp)
That is the same price as decathlon then add 3 life jackets, paddles, pump, wetsuits and it soon adds another £200. So not cheap to start but the kids really enjoyed it and we have booked to stay next to coniston lake for a week now.
Another vote for Houghton Mill! We take ours there as you can launch form the mill pond and there's many an hour can be spent paddling round the area on the river and its tributaries. Noseying at the big houses with private moorings is a must! We have been able to see loads of wildlife as you can be really quiet. We have seen Herons up close, pike, kingfishers and we have spent ages watching some very young ducklings with their mum!
You can paddle up to St Ives as a previous poster has mentioned. There's Battcocks Island to paddle around too- reminds you of the Famous Five island!- was that Kirren Island??
Also you can paddle around Hemmingfords meadow but you will need to get out at a couple of points I believe... once to avoid the lock and I think the other time maybe at Huntingdon end of Hemmingfords meadow.

Abersoch would be a great coastal site, and a very safe bay for kayaking ( they rent them out on the beach)
thank you for this, I am building up a list of where to go now.
