Hello,

I drove to Pentwan Sands for Whitsun, and decided this year to drive over night, leaving at midnight, as I had an approx 5hr.30min drive, and I wanted to be around St Austell for 6am ish, missing all the traffic, as it was the Jubilee week. I arrived at Honiton Devon around 4am and stopped for a 45 min break before carrying on down to Cornwall. When I got to St Austell, just on the outskirts of the town, the road that leads from St Austell through London Apprentice and onto Pentwan Sands has a B&Q on it and right opposite is a Mc Donnalds that is always opened early! So what you can do is park up in B&Q Car Park, as it’s always empty at that time in the morning, walk across the road and get a breakfast from Mc Donnalds!! It sets you up for the day ahead arguing with each other about who is putting the awning up the wrong way round…lol Come on, we have all been there???

My sister tells me that fri/sat are the worse times but in the summer hols it is fairly busy most of the time. She goes down around four times a year and has been doing this for the last fifteen years or so and has varied her travelling days throughout the summer visits. A fair few of the holiday sites only do sat to sat bookings in the summer so this doesnt help the situation either.

Would love to be able to travel down on the Friday but won't know if OH will get the day off until the week before, and since he won't be home til about 6-7ish if he's working, he'll need a  bit of a rest before we head off. Asked the site about arriving early and they said not before 11am. I think we'll aim to leave about 4 then stop for breakfast when we're nearly there. If we can leave on Friday and stop at a CL neaby we'll do that.

We're travelling from there to Portsmouth the following Saturday. Any ideas on the traffic in that direction?
