I usually stay near the lower facilities block.
For my last 2 stays, I had Pitch 166 and 167 which are in front of the caravan storage area, close to a watering point and bins point, as well as the facilities block.
I am having Pitch 165 next year which is the end of the row, with just one pitch neighbour on one side, right opposite the watering/bins point, and it is a big pitch, being the end of the row. Hence I chose it.
The first time I stayed there, I was part of a small gathering, and we were put on a small plateau of grassy pitches with EHU next to the forest. Good view of the site, however, it was quite windy, and the ground quite hard.
I was not too keen on backing up to the forest with just a few wires as barrier. Hence I prefer the pitches along the caravan storage area instead.
I believe the lower facilities block is likely to be less busy than the top block, unless the rally field is full at peak times.
I am not keen on staying near the playground as I don't like kids, sorry!
The other niggle I had about Birchwood is that the washing up area at the lower block is uncovered. The owners have every intention to have it covered, just not got round to it yet due to other priorities, like having the paddling pool renovated and putting in new doors for the top block for this year.
I believe the washing up areas for the top block is covered, however, I cannot be 100% certain.
