we've been going to Kelling Heath for over 20 years and in all that time have only ever seen a snake once.

I think you might find snakes anywhere. On site, our barbecue lives in a bag under the caravan. We always check the bag for snakes before it goes back into the caravan for travel.

So far, no snakes, but I think they are quite common. Most bites are caused by handling, but I would use a good torch if walking about the field at night. Better safe than sorry.

We live in Norfolk and have stayed at Kellingheath for a weekend. Don't let snakes put you off it's a lovely site, I loved watching the sun set over the sea we did see a snake about 2 years ago but that was whilst on a walk from our house and to be honest it just looked like a big dark green worm with attitude, we gave it a wide berth, looked at it for a bit and then carried on with our walk.

You will get snakes in any damp area.  We have them around here, I have seen them but never heard of anyone being bitten.

Thanks everyone for the replies - appreciate it.

I have booked! It looks such a lovely site and I figured that if people were likely to be getting bitten by snakes there then they wouldn't be allowed to operate as a family campsite. I am still a bit concerned, especially as we have a pitch at the back corner of blue field. Not sure whether this means as on edge we are nearer open heath? And therefore more likely to be nearer snakes? I obviously won't go sticking my hands down any holes, will take a torch at night, watch where I put my feet etc. OH pointed out I went for a walk in New Forest (oblivious to snakes) and they could have been there.
