We've only stayed on one that had a lot of seasonals and it was great, the occupiers were so friendly and helpful as they knew so much about the site and area and like you say they took pride in their caravans.
I've read a few of your posts in the past and am amazed with some of the things you have to put up with so I don't blame you for going down the seasonal route.

i think your doing the right thing, we are seasonal, out of 100 pitches 60 are seasonal and there is a big waiting list. I have only seen all the touring pitches full at Bank Holiday's. From the site prospective they could release more touring pitches to seasonal and have guaranteed income.
I do agree with some of the posts though about unloved caravans on some sites, we looked at loads of sites before deciding on ours. We are not on the cheapest but we prefer to pay a little more for a well cared for site which has well cared for caravans!!
Jakers, you say you are some distance from key areas. Well from our experience that is what we wanted. We have three kids under five and wanted somewhere that was rural, like you. I think there are a lot of people that like the idea of going to their van and just relaxing while the kids play. The site we are on has no club, takeaway and is in a rural location. They have increased this year to 65 seasonal and are probably going to increase this further. We like going to our van and not having our hand in our pocket every two minutes..I am sure we aren't alone.
Hallo Liz, I think you would be doing the right thing. I know some sites give the appearance of being an illegal traveller's site with tourers that hav'nt moved in years and old pallets as decking out the front. Having stayed on your site, I am confident that would never happen with you. Would certainly not be put off staying by the fact that a site was predominantly seasonal or static.
Must say, tho, would never site our van, I think it's called wanderlust, or something like that!!!......Mick

I have mixed opinions on this. If the seasonals are looked after and the pitches well cared for then they don't bother me (I camped last month with my tent pitched between two unoccupied seasonals and they made great windbreaks!) but I think on any site there has to be the right balance between seasonals and normal tourers and tent campers. Okay, from a site owner's point of view seasonals probably bring in more money but from a tent camper's point of view too many can be off-putting.
Last year I noticed that a site I go to regularly in North Wales had increased the number of seasonal pitches to almost double what they'd had previously and tent campers are gradually being squeezed out of the quieter areas of the site - I've been going there for years but I can see it won't be long before I look for an alternative.
A site I went to in Northumberland has separate areas for tourers, statics and tent campers but the owners are looking to put more statics on part of the camping meadow. The site is only very small anyway so more statics will, imo, be overkill and will spoil what is at the moment a lovely little place to camp - again, the tent campers are being squeezed out in favour of the money-makers.
So, a moderate amount of looked-after seasonals? - no problem. Too many? - a definite no-no for me.

We have noticed that on Mixed sites (those with statics plus tourers and tents) more and more room is given over to statics. Before long these sites will be 100% statics and us touring folk will have fewer sites to use.

I can understand where you are coming from, but seasonal pitches always put me off attending a site. they never seem to be as well kept as the touring section.
Storage sheds and masses of plastic garden furniture have no place on a touring site,
Also uncut grass close in to awnings and under vans is quite unsightly.
When we visited you already had quite a large number of seasonal sites and at an estimate it was probably 60% of the site. Seasonal sites do offer long term security and less hassle as you do not have to worry about any one booking in.
However the downside is that after awhile some people on seasonal site start acting like self appointed wardens to people act as if they own the site and that they and their siblings can do as they please.
Going by the bad weather last year it is unlikely we will be visiting West Wales for a very long time and other people may feel the same. From that aspect go seasonal on all available pitches.

We allocated 16 of our 40 pitches to seasonal use, I see what you are saying about folks appointing themselves as 'wardens'. We would look for a turnover each year, as we do now in an attempt to stop that behaviour..... the weather, cost of fuel etc certainly is affecting the business in our area, as you rightly say all too many have been completely put off visiting this area - in 9 years of ownership here it is currently very dubious if we shall survive this season... hence trying different solutions....
