Think I've said on another thread, we've been over to France the last few years for a holiday and TDF. I've never paid over the odds on a site there and will not in this country. Looks as if my pennies will become Euros and head over to France again!

I'm posting this on here, as well as on the Camping Abroad section, to notify people that Broughton Hall near Skipton (where I work) is to host an event over the Tour de France weekend which has space for 15,000 campers (not sure whether that's just tents or campers/caravans too). I've just had details in the Broughton Hall Christmas newsletter, and these are copied from the article:
Plans are underway for next year’s Tour de France extravaganza to be held at Broughton, aptly named “The Rapha Tempest Festival of Cycling” which will see the Estate host 15,000 campers looking to celebrate the Grande Depart in Yorkshire. If you fancy coming along then please call Mike at the Estate Office on 01756 799608.
We've just been looking at Holme Sweet Holme campsite. £200 for 5 adults for 2 nights so seems cheaper than others on the route. And is right at the foot of Holme moss so very close to the action unlike a few others.
I've defected to bricks and mortar......found a cottage for 4, £180 for 3 nights! Also room for eldest and wife if they wish to join at £15 a night.....very happy!

Really quite shocked by prices for the pop up farm campsites or is it worth it for the chance of a lifetime??
Does anyone have any info about rules/regs of campervans or motorhomes just parking up at the side of the road in true French style?
The tour will go right past the front gate of the cc site at Hebden Bridge. Having just looked there is space there. Another site local to the tour on the 6th July is Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

C&CC have 2 THS sites for the tour, one in Leyburn £8.00 night and one at Ripley Castle Harrogate for £16 pun, the tour goes right past the gates of Ripley Castle!
I have booked in for Ripley Castle,( Central Yorkshire DA) they have spaces but I wouldn't leave it too long as its so cheap they are expecting to fill up fast. You obviously need to be a member of the C&CC to go though.
They have kids activities and giant TV screens on site and if you are feeling up to a 20 min walk you can see the start of day two on sunday morning in Harrogate after seeing Sat's race go past the gates of the castle.
Sounds like a fab weekend to me!
Hope that helps people.

We are booked in to Le Campsite Harrogate It's a farm within walking distance of the finish of the Harrogate stage of Le Tour de France. They are pulling out all the stops to make it a fun weekend - including making pizzas in their own custom made Pizza oven. The pizzas are super good - we have been allowed to test them out :-)Should be an absolute blast - really looking forward to it. Guess there's no point reviewing the site cos it's only there for the duration of the Tour, but lots of thought has gone into it by Jon and Ali, the owners. Love their mascot for Le site - Callum the cycling sheep!www.lecampsiteharrogate.weebly.com
