Used to use Skin so soft but now I'm a complete convert to Smidge. It's the best without using DEET.

I am the same, Skin so Soft good, but Smidge is excellent, May is not too bad for midgies.

Happy Camping

Have a great trip, it is usually good weather in May / June.

I hope so, I'm coming up that way myself - to Arisaig - on June 1st for ten days.

As for midges, I was never troubled by them when I was there a few years ago and that was in August so I'm hoping they leave me alone this time too.

Lovely to read you are finally heading up to Arisaig again after all this time. Wouldn't worry too much about the midges as you will probably be next to the sea and that keeps them at bay so enjoy!
I'm writing out a list of things to take up with me when I go on Thursday. Of course there are a million and one things that need to go right before I can get there and its not looking good at the moment !
The race is on Tiger !

Have a great trip, Arisaig is close to where the beach scenes for Local Hero were filmed (although the "hotel" and red phone box are on the east coast).

I really don't think that the midges will be a problem by the coast.

I heard a woman on radio today saying "Deet" is useless once the mossies are used to it. No mention of midges though.

Lemon juice in water, sprayed on works for me.

Now I know this sounds daft, and it probably is, but I read somewhere ages ago that taller people are more affected by midges than smaller people, as taller people are in their flight path. Whether there's a grain of truth in this I don't know but when I was in Arisaig a few years ago with my now-ex he got quite badly bitten while I stayed midge-free - and quite coincidentally he's 6ft 3 while I'm less than 5ft!

Hello
Sorry to ask on someone else's topic but we are heading to Aviemore in August. Does this area get affected much by the midges?

Thanks
