Don't just visit York if you're coming to Yorkshire, there are so many beautiful places in Yorkshire, Moors, Dales and Coast, great way to see it, take a steam train ride across the Yorkshire Moors on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. There are some beautiful stately homes, abbies and castles up here too.

The Lake District, Wales, Northumberland and the Cotswolds would also all be on a 'not to miss' list of places to visit. Liverpool is also one of our favourite cities to visit.

Hi Peter, what a great post and I loved reading all the replies too. If you want to hire a motorhome in the UK then you don't necessarily have to stay on a campsite unless you need to stay for more than one night that is. However if you are just touring daily then there is a facility just for motorhome 'one night' stop overs that doesn't cost anything and as payment the locals just appreciate you just buying from them such as a meal at the pub you stay at over night etc. As an English citizen myself I can say that Scotland has some wonderful picturesque countryside and Wallaces Monument is actually one place I would like to visit in the future myself. Next time you come just bring some of that wonderful sunshine with you.

Peter - Just a thought about the Yorkshire leg of your expedition.

We have the Tour de France cycle race here for a couple of days in 2014, I think on 5th & 6th July.  Campsites in the areas near the route will be booked up long in advance. So, if you want to see the race give it some thought, and if you dont you can plan round it!
