Hi,

Clachtoll Campsite (link below) is in a great location, is reasonably remote but is close to Lochinver for fuel, restaurants, pubs, shops etc. New showers & toilets. Great view and beach.

Don't expect noise or entertainment!!

Applecross Campsite is worth the effort. Shop/bakery/cafe on site. Pub in the village. Stunning area/scenery. Bealach Na Ba is very steep and has a number of hairpin bends which must be negotiated. Make sure your van is up to the climb!

We are going to Lochinver for our first port of call for out two week holiday.  We are travelling from Lancashire and its gonna take hours to get there.

Has any idea what the roads are like when you get up there?  Are they steep or winding?  We have a small car and trailer and would just like some info?

The roads to Lochinver are fine as long as you stick to the main roads. If you branch off and take some of the coastal routes eg via Achiltibuie, then be prepared for single track roads with passing places only. These are OK to drive on as long as you are comfortable reversing if you meet another vehicle, as it's not always possible to squeeze pass. Reversing to a passing place is often the only option.

Again the roads are not particularly steep or winding, especially if you can keep to the main roads. The best bet would be to get to your campsite by main roads where possible, although this might not be possible  for the last few miles. Once there you can leave the trailer and explore all the narrow coastal roads. (the coastal road north from Lochinver is well worth a drive).

Well our favourite site in Scotland has to be at Bunacaimb just north of Arisaig right on the coast. We`ve camped there on about 3 occations silver sands clear blue water, about 10 miles south of Mallaig, there is also sites at The Back of Keppoch about half a mile south of Bunacaimb. Do a Google UK search for Bunacaimb and take it from there
