We used to go camping with a couple of friends and on one or two occasions got a slightly snooty response when trying to book adjacent pitches.

I just explained that we were all middle-aged and our party included 2 librarians, so we were very quiet and dull. That seemed to work well!

Only time we've had a problem was with the C&CC site at Slapton Sands a few years ago. Booked with a friend in February for the August, both members, both asked to be pitched next to each other. I got there to find no they couldn't do that, this is your pitch! We were quite away from our friends but still had a good time. It's not as if C&CC let you choose your own pitch, all their sites i've been to i've been told where to pitch, i'm sure they could have organised it if they wanted to!

Hi, We've just returned from East Sussex Horam manor farm today (sorry first post still not sure how to link but campsite has good reviews on this site). We were two tent family, my husband, me and 2 kids, my sister in law and her daughter in the other. We booked one after the other online and then followed up with phone call to check pitched together, never had a problem, campsite very helpful. We also did this in April in the new forest at Lytton lawn campsite, again no issues. We were surrounded by 2 and 3 tent families. The chat went on late but did settle, the kids lots of them running around, playing tennis or having water fights as it was so hot, yet they were always respectful of people walking past and mindful of others and tried to play away from the cars and tents. A lovely holiday and nice to see so many having a lovely holiday too. Good ol' fashioned outdoors fun, adults relaxing away from the stresses of work and every day life and the kids just doing what kids should be allowed to do enjoying themselves.

We went to Middlehills Farm near Matlock at the weekend (review pending when I get chance!). This is the second time I have visited and although I was aware it is a busy family site we had a few issues with a group next to us.

Appeared to be 3 families that sited right next to my trailer tent on the Saturday, probably little more than 5 feet away. There were also two families part of the group that must have been in another field and all were already well into the beers by the time we had got back from a trip out at about 5pm. No real problem with this in itself, (I know others might disagree) but they had a large number of kids (8 maybe) playing football right in front of us. This was made worse when, as we were about to eat our dinner outside, the adults joined in the game. The kids seemed to have no respect for our personal space and consistently walked right past our tent. I have three small children under 7 and know what kids can be like, but these children were older and should know better.

The group then proceeded to stay up until 2am on the Sunday drinking and talking loudly, despite the 10.30pm noise curfew.

Now I don't think these were inherently rude people (unlike the post below) but I think large groups just end up being very self centred and inconsiderate. It certainly took the shine off our weekend and has now made me ultra cautious around booking my next site.

I am not suggesting that the original poster is like this at all, but just outlining why some sites are, rightly in my mind (after last weekend), cautious.

PS I know I should have complained but we were only there for the weekend and didn't really want the aggro.

I gave never yet camped where tents near us are not a couple of families together, or extended family in multiple tents. Never, ever have they be a problem. Don't give up, you will have a great time once you find the right site. What area are you looking for and what requiremnents (each, play park)
