That is the one at Bryncrug? went there when I was 11, a very long time ago, there were 2 caravans and a loo at the farm, I think it's changed a bit! anyway, it's not far from beaches, but that said, there are many better beaches in North Wales. Have you considered Anglesey? there are great beaches all around it.

Yes, i think its the same one, the site is just south of the town near the railway

Have a look at Dan yr Ogof, National Showcaves for Wales. Caves, rare breeds farm, dinosaurs, castle with cafe over the road in a park, buses to Brecon and Swansea come inside the gates.

Beddgelert, another thread near this one. Walks, streams running through it, pretty village, places to go round and about if you have a car.

Nora

And theres a campsite there too at Beddgelert, I just didnt see why i should pay 5 quid a night for my trailer, so that put me off, but its a great location

I suggested Anglesey as I think the op is from oop north and may not want to go as far as Pembrokeshire or the Gower but both are lovely.

We've never visited with the caravan so for the most part can't comment on specific campsites, although for the most part we've found the reviews on this site to be pretty reliable.

Location-wise, you'll find something to love pretty much anywhere. However, if it's your first time visit we'd suggest one of four options (you could easily spend two weeks at each one):

1. Snowdonia. It's just beautiful. Even if you don't fancy mountain or hill walking, Betws-y-Coed, Beddgelert, Portmeirion and Criccieth are all beautiful, the Ffestiniog railway to Porthmadog and the Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon both make good day trips and the scenery is stunning, and on a rainy day (of which there are many) there's even a centre which has trampolines and zip wires in an underground cave system (search for Bounce Below).
Avoid: Caernarfon. Other than its castle (and the last time I went there a seagull sh*t on my head) there isn't really much to see or do except visit charity shops.

2. The coastline from Harlech to Barmouth and Aberdyfi. The castle at Harlech is lovely, the beaches at Harlech and Barmouth are stunning and the steam railway at Tal-y-Llyn and miniature railway at Fairbourne have a wonderful history as well as being beautiful. If time permits, you could combine this with a visit to Aberystwyth - a pretty and lively town which is also home to a camera obscura, reached by the longest electric cliff railway in Britain - Devil's Bridge and the beaches at Borth and Ynyslas to the north.
Avoid: unless you plan to make the trip to Newquay which is about 45 minutes to an hour's drive, the area to the south of Aberystwyth isn't really remarkable or memorable. Head east, north (or west on a fishing boat) instead.

3. Pembrokeshire - the long golden beaches at Tenby are the stuff of legend, whilst the town itself got a bit commercialised and tired-looking at one point but is undergoing something of a revival now. St David's, with its spectacular cathedral and boat trips to the surrounding islands, is wonderful. A boat trip from Martin's Haven to Skomer island is a must and further north, the Gwaun Valley and the beaches at Poppit and Newport are beautiful.
Here I can recommend a campsite - Caerfai Bay caravan and tent park near St Davids - which is owned by a friend of our family.
Avoid: Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock. They exist because of the oil industry, not the tourism industry and are hideous.

4. Gower Peninsula. The option if you want stunning views - I believe the view of the beach at Rhosilli from the cliffs above was voted the best in Wales - beaches and ruined castles but within easier reach of a motorway and the city of Swansea for restaurants, night life etc. Heading west for a couple of days to Pembrey Country Park and Kidwelly Castle is also worthwhile.
Avoid: Llanelli. God was probably proud of Wales when he'd finished with it, but then Satan popped up and did this place. It really is that bad.

Sorry if that's confused you more than ever!

Thanks Samandrose, thats a great summary!! I think one thing we have realised is just how beautiful wales is, ok it might not have the weather, or maybe im being unfair there, but its certainly a beautiful country. Ive even seen a few places where i think id like to live :)
I think at this stage we are looking at the south snowdonia area, near Tywyn, but there are a million of places where we could have stopped as it all looks so nice, so going to explore the area you mentioned in your section 2. Its interesting that you said there wasnt much south of Aberystwyth as i sort of got that feeling when I was looking at the C&C club site down there which is just south of New Quay, got to keep the kids entertained :) We like outdoor things as a family and our kids both like walking, and also like most kids enjoy just making new friends on the campsite.

I think we are going to give the Tynllwyn Caravan and Camping Park a go, ive contacted them to see if they have space for this summer, so we shall see. Massive thanks for all your replies though!!! I think we have alot more exploring of wales to do in the coming years.

You are indeed right, from Gods own county of Yorkshire :) And yes, i had a really good look at Anglesey, the gower and Pembrokshire are indeed a fair distance, Tenby is about a 5 and a half hour journey, thats not with stops, so its like driving to cornwall for us., the snowdonia area is about 3-3.5 hours drive so 4 and bit with stops. So thanks for your suggestion, i love the way people on here are really helpful as you can see from the replys that I have been given to my original thread :)

Tynllwyn sounds like a good choice - it's a little further from the coast than my earlier suggestion of Pall Mall Farm, but literally just across the lane from the Talyllyn Raiway's Rhydyronen Station.

The article mentions it translates as Ash Ford and if you cross over the line there is indeed an ash tree next to what is now a bridge!
