Look up Thurstaston Country Park campsite Situated in the Wirral Peninsular Cheshire, at top of cliffs looking across the River Dee to Wales, with miles of ex train track walks/cycling both directions from the campsite, called 'The Wirral Way' and a walkway down to stony beach you can also walk both ways. Cafe outside site gates, restaurant a mile up the road pluss Organic farm shop/coffee .Its a club site , so reasonably good if tired facilities, but its more that its central for a big variety of places and attractions. You have the Roman city of Chester one way and Liverpool City (ferry trips, galleries, museums and architecture ) the other , and North Wales mountains less than an hour away. A mile up the road from site is Thurstaston Hill,(large heathland/woods/rocks etc), from where you can get a great view of Wirral and Wales and a few miles drive down the road one way is West Kirby marine lake from where if the tide is right you can park and walk out to Hilbre Island to do some seal and water bird spotting . A few miles the other direction is Parkgate an ex port which is now a tidal marsh( with an RSPB wetlands reserve a couple of miles further round the coast.) Inland a few miles is architecturally interesting Port Sunlight Village, built for workers of the Leverhulme soap factory ,with its art gallery and small museum and cafe , and a few mies further away, the disused but preserved Hooton rail station (on the Wirral Way) near which is a 2 floor second hand 'antique oddments' emporium called 'Browsers' if you like that sort of thing. Ellesmere Port Boat museum not far way ,likewise Chester Zoo and several other country parks to visit.
