I am highly allergic to dogs. If one should as much as brush against my trouser leg I would be wheezing for days so I am always very aware of dogs on sites. In the UK we tend to use CMC sites where we find rules about everything, not just dogs, are generally well enforced. People do occasionally break the rules and the wardens can’t always see everything but if you report something to them, in our experience, they usually take action.
Unfortunately it seems that a few inconsiderate owners can really give dog owners a bad name. For example, a while back a dog not on a lead rushed up to us and started jumping up. The owner just laughed and shouted down to us “don’t worry, he’s very friendly!”. Whether or not he is friendly makes no difference to the fact that the end of my holiday was ruined by an allergic reaction.
Absolutely bad owners rather than bad dogs. We all know how our dogs are going to react and behave and its down to us to ensure that the dogs we choose to share our lives with do not effect those who made no such decision.
I really appreciate your replies and feel better knowing that others understand and feel the same.
