Well I booked a campsite for May ... One night on way to the ferry ,given the virus, cancelled and asked how much for a same in September ... Asking double !!
Now is it the time ... Mays a bit early admittadly so might have been out of season, but the second date is the week after the kids go back to school ... Profiteering ?

I think it would be reasonable to give credit notes ‘like for like’; a low season booking replaced with another low season booking. So a May for September slot seems a fair swap to me.

Sites will go out of business if they swap term time April bookings to fill up sites mid August.

As a consumer you are perfectly entitled to ask for a breakdown of the admin fee and they have to supply it as it is something you are purchasing.

Paypal in line with a lot of other online card processing merchants (aye -they're merchants not just a handy payment portal) no longer refund the fee charged for taking a payment if it's refunded.   Sites may be in the same position for online payment - not just refunding the deposit but losing the fee to accept it in the first place.

This post has been sort of “hijacked” from asking if the site people are warranted charging double ,from a May 19 th booking to a September 9 th booking , they didn’t actually ask for a fee when booking , but doubled price when date was changed .... well in advance I might say 😡
Not impressed I might add , booked somewhere else , bit nearer and actually £6 a night less expensive .
Do you think we are going to see more of this given more folk will perhaps not travel abroad ?

When it is suggested that camp sites should be able to claim off their insurance it makes me wonder how many of us insured against a pandemic. I didn't as I never thought of it, neither did my insurance company suggest such cover. The admin fee might mean survival for some sites.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

The touring park I booked with, is refusing to refund ANY money.

Wells Touring Park.

I enquired what the refund policy was due to the present situation (I know they are offering a credit scheme, to rebook at a later date, but this is of no benefit to me now).

Without me asking to, they cancelled my booking and have refused to refund any of the payment. The reason provided was due to the fact we are unable to travel (as in, due to Government restrictions), therefore not fulfilling our part of the contract (and they acknowledged they are unable to fulfil their part also). So on this basis, they've declared it's not in anyone's control and therefore I am not entitled to a refund.

They have since (I made the booking) amended their T&Cs to include 'Force Majeure', but these were not the terms I agreed to at the time of booking (as they didn't exist).

Despite being completely unethical, in my opinion, I also question whether it's even lawful.

During my communication process, they have now closed the park completely, which may mean anyone else who wishes to discuss their bookings etc may be left high and dry (and out of pocket).

Ronin, What did your local police say when you reported this? They should act or make Trading Standards act. Report it and let us know what happens.

My wife was contacted by the Park today, they are now refunding our payment, minus the deposit of £30.

They should also be refunding the deposit fee if they want to retain good relations with customers. I certainly would never use them again.

You probably wouldn't be able to as giving back all the money there is a good chance they will go out of business.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

The site in France we had booked for Easter will not open, so even if we wanted to, we couldn’t stay there. We have already paid a deposit of about 200,- Euro, which they refuse to pay back.
They made us the „generous“ offer to postpone our stay. To some time later this year but of course not in July or August.
For a family with school-age children this is a joke and to be honest, this makes me angry. The risk cannot always be blamed on the customer.
Don’t get me wrong, I perfectly understand that the situation is very difficult for businesses these days, but I think fairness is required. If it was the other way round, if the campsite would open and we were not able to come e.g. due to measures of our government, the campsite most probably wouldn’t care either.
I now offered to accept a credit note, that can be redeemed at any time until the end of 2021, which I think would be fair for both sides. A give and take.

A bit late, I have only just seen your post, but under current French regulations they have to give you a full refund.
