Hiya, I am not sure if Padstow is not far enough down, however Macdonalds Farm Touring and Camping is a great site

We are now at a lovely CL, Chygwne Farm at Playing Place, just south of Truro. No loos or showers, not sure if it is far west enough for you.

We stayed at Gwithian a few years ago and that was a nice site. Tregarton is also nice and not too far from Mevagissey and St. Austell. I remember our pitch as being huge when we stayed at Tregarton.

It may not be quite as far to the South West as Redruth, but Carnon Wollas near Truro is well worth a look. It is far enough to the south west to make Land's End and the Lizard an easy trip but it is still central enough to be able to visit the whole of Cornwall easily enough.

I have done a review of Carnon Wollas and it is a really lovely site with very friendly owners. It is quite a small site, but it is really well maintained with good facilities. It is adults only though which may or may not be suitable for you.

Higher Trevaskis, situated between st ives and Penzance offers good discounts if you are both senior citizens. Also the big plus is that they have a superb farm shop and restaurant as part of their business.

Hi another "shout out" for Higher Trevaskis Caravan and Camping Park. We have stayed there a couple times (out of season) over recent years. There is a farm shop and restaurant just down he road but I don't recall the owners of the campsite saying the 2 businesses are connected in anyway.

Family run site which well maintained with around 80 pitches. Good easy access from the A30 in between Hayle and Cambourne with a number of popular supermarkets in both towns. The excellent Gwithian beach is approixmately 5 miles away

My apologies regarding the assumed connection of the caravan and camping site with the farm shop and the restaurant.
This was by word of mouth and not by personal experience.

Hi WeeAlD, no apology needed for me, the restaurant, farm shop and caravan park have very good reputations and are all worth a visit.

Provided you're brave enough to tackle the access - it's manageable by HGVs but I really wouldn't want to meet one coming the other way - Helford River Camping near Gweek could be just what you're looking for. It's beautiful, some of the surrounding villages feel like time has forgotten them and yet it's an easy drive to The Lizard, Lands End, Helston, Falmouth etc.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. We have decided not to go so far this summer and booked a site in North Devon instead, but I have bookmarked a number of these sites for future reference.

I fairly new to camping so can't recommend a site but having had many holidays in Cornwall having a base in the middle of the county, such as near Truro can work well.
Weather can vary greatly between north and south coasts, and east and west of the county. It can be pouring rain in Newquay and glorious around Falmouth or vice versa. Being based in the centre means you can plan your days around local forecasts (I find the Met Office good).
