I never book far in advance either, two weeks at most, and sometimes only a few days. I haven't always got my first choice but have done most times. On a few occasions my second choice has worked out better and/or cheaper than my first. That was the case a couple of years ago when I tried to book the nearest C&CC site to Weston Super Mare (we are members) but it was fully booked. Our second choice had plenty of room, was an excellent site, and not much more than half the C&CC price, even including our seniors discount. I don't mind paying up front, but in view of how late we book I would expect it. Haven't always been asked to though.
Am 3/4 way thru booking sites covering Jubilee and onwards. Only site that hasn't asked for deposit is a CL for the Jubilee, has given me the gate code, but I'm still going to ring before we leave to offer a deposit, so I know I'm booked, cos if this falls thru, I shall have a lot of rearranging to do. This trip is Derbyshire,Shropshire, Gloucester Dorset Hants so far, prob Northants and Notts before home.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
