You were looking for National Trust type places. I recommend the interactive map on the website for the Historic Houses Association, which shows a number of houses & gardens in the area, all of which are still lived in (unlike most NT places) www.historichouses.org . Opening times will vary from daily to a few days a year, but some are only open for pre arranged visits which won’t be suitable for you. Entry ticket cost seems to be directly related to size / how much of the place you get to see (free entry to Castle Howard, Blenheim, Longleat, Highclere, Scone, Inveraray etc soon pays back our HHA membership.) There look to be some very attractive places in Norfolk / Suffolk, not just Sandringham but also Holkham & many others, some much smaller but very pretty. It’s a bit of a faff opening up each marker on the map, easier with the handbook, but it might provide a day out, or two.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Having driven past Southerely more times than I can remember, I have always thought that the access looks extremely tight if towing a caravan.

I also noticed that the majority of recent reviews are from tenters or campervan owners, access isues for a caravan?

I for one would never tackle it.

Never been (and don’t have a caravan). I looked at the photos on the UKCS directory: plenty of caravans on the site and a photo of the entrance from the main road. It looks like it’s been opened up recently, creating a wider bell mouth with new tarmac where a corner has been cut off.

The pictures of the site, one is from 2002 and the others 2015, which I looked at so did know that there was plenty of caravans on there.
None of the caravans look the wider(8ft) vans, so very possibly easier for them.

The entrance is the same as it's been for years!

Are we all talking about the same site? Entrance looks fine to me, although I can see the lane up past the garages / house looks a bit narrow possibly but not too bad?

I take your point, but I couldn’t see photos’ dates on the mobile version of the directory. Or I was wearing the wrong specs!

Couple of suggestions for coastal Suffolk - Cliff House at Dunwich is brilliant for walking and cycling and handy for Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings. It also has a nice restaurant and bar.

If you like CLs there is a cracker near Snape where you can walk along the river to Aldeburgh if you are keen ! - I did review it when we visited in 2020 but oddly, can't find the review now. It's CAMC but we stayed on the overflow which i preferred for its space and views. Snape Maltings and 3 good pubs within cycling distance, garage with shop 5 mins walk.

The coastal towns and market towns have lots of history but I think the National Trust places are more inland (apart from Sutton Hoo, which is worth a visit) We like Ickworth which is towards Bury St Edmunds. We've got family in this area, but have stayed at Stowmarket - Lakeside Fishing and Caravan Park, Onehouse. Not normally my sort of place at all. but peaceful with a lovely cafe on site and nice pub opposite. Again, good walks nearby.

I strongly recommend Breck Farm at Weybourne nr Holt.
I go there a lot and its one of the nicest sites on the North Norfolk Coast.
I have reviewed it many times and there is another more detailed review waiting in the wings.
It's near Sheringham as well as all the lovely towns and villages on the A149 coast road so it's ideal as a base to explore the local area.

Another vote for Deers Mead, we visited last year and absolutely loved it and are going back next year. An incredibly peaceful site with exceptional facilities and no more expensive than our other favourite sites - you get what you pay for. Ideal for Norfolk coast and Broads.

I think it depends what we actually want. It's way too expensive for us, but maybe offers more than we want anyway. Sandringham C&CC site is substantially cheaper and provides all we need. Lovely and peaceful when we go there too, and the pitches are a decent size and allow us to decide which way round we set up our caravan.
