We are staying at Black Knowl in September as well. It is the most expensive site we are staying on this year but we grudgingly pay it because we love the location, right in the middle of the forest and have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. I did look for other less expensive sites but couldn’t find anything that looked as good and was in as good a location which had a toilet. There are a few ‘Camping in the Forest’ sites that are in lovely locations, for example Aldridge Hill, but they have no EHU or toilets so you have to be completely self sufficient. Some ‘Camping in the Forest’ sites do have EHU and toilets but they are just as expensive as the CMC sites so we stick to Black Knowl.
100% agree. You get what you pay for.
Sadly, only sometimes. One of the best sites we have ever been on was also one of the cheapest. I have looked at other much more expensive sites and to me they were nowhere near as good. I suppose it could be argued that what one person sees as "good" isn't necessarily the same as what someone else would like.
I found the New Forest site we stayed on to be good, and the prices were very reasonable. Certainly well within our quite low budget.

Colin

Hi Nesty
i have not posted anything on here for a few years but i do pop in now and then for a read.
Give Gorse Farm a try i have been going there every year for over 30 years and i can assure you its perfect for what you are looking for. It is a very well kept site lovely clean showers etc the owners are really nice too,and it is in a great location being just around the corner from Sandy Balls
It may well be listed in the campsite search here and you will find it under Fordingbridge on a google search
------------- its our imperfections that makes us perfect

The OP might be away already, as they were going in September.
Gorse Farm is in the UKCS directory, gets top score from 25 reviews.
Yes, I'm already away! TBH, for £20 a night, it's a lovely campsite.
Tho thanks for all the replies on this.
