It is on the old A120. OH remembers it as he did a plumbing job at Bishops Stortford years ago. You can see the new road from here.

We've not long been back from one of our favourite CL sites in the Peak District. Wynford the owner told us that he considered putting up his site fees earlier in the year but because energy prices had gone down and his site insurance had stayed the same he decided to keep the site fees at his usual price. £20 a night all in. Lovely site with super views. We've been caravaning for 20 odd years and never paid over £20. We only go to small sites never bank hols or school hols. We've had our children they've flown the nest so it's nice peace to have quiet in our later life.

Only a handful of sites now < £20, sadly, even out of school holidays - unless you don’t need a loo. Our toilet fairy sets her rules however, so we need a site with a basic loo.

Went to France mid April until mid July 90 days. Paid 15-19€ pn for sites on ACSI card until last couple of weeks. I reckon compared with UK prices for same period it more than covered ferry & extra diesel costs. Now at nice rural site in Norfolk £33 pn but it is August.

i just experienced a rather ridiculous situation at booking the c&cc at Scarborough, this was prior to school holls high season, i wanted 2 nights on a grass only pitch, and found out it was cheaper to book 3 nights rather than 2 nights......EH.......yeh, if you book 3 nights, you get a 40% discount, which makes it cheaper than 2 nights. so best to book 3 nights , then go home after 2 nights, which could deprive someone else of a pitch, quite ridiculous

I must remember that when I do my dummy bookings. CCC won’t accept single nights at some times at some pitches (eg Moffat all summer). Surely a pitch fee for one night is better than an empty one? But I’d never thought to ask for more than I wanted. Crazy!

At the site now and it is about 2/3 full on the first Sunday in August 2024!

No wonder they are offering discounts in an attempt to fill the pitches!

It is an adult-only site and is blissful!

Perhaps it would get busier later in the week.

It may well get busier on Friday, but in my experience many sites we have been on emptied out early Monday morning, when the last of the weekenders went home. That is why we normally start our holidays on a Monday. By doing this we have rarely failed to get in booking no more than two weeks in advance, and sometimes only a few days. The same sites often had shown up as "fully booked" for a Saturday start, but when we arrived they were 2 thirds empty.

I asked last week whether I could arrive on Saturday and stay for an extra night, and was informed I would need to move on Sunday, so I decided against it.

I may come back to this site for my future August adult-only camping trips as I like its facilities and peacefulness.

We're new to motorhoming and have enjoyed some fabulous Cls, all under £20 with EHU and only one (the most expensive) didn't have a loo.
One site we had completely to ourselves, and the rest were not full (and this was during August).
The only concern for us is stopping on a grass pitch as our motorhome is over 3.5 tonnes but luckily August has been dry enough not to worry

Just back from a couple of weeks stay, midweek to midweek, on a full CAMC site in the Lake District, and it was never full, got close over w/e's with mostly single nighters, one w/e because of a 'Festival of Light torchlight procession up Cat Bells', but outside of w/e I doubt it was 50% full, and this is the height of holiday season! OK, no toilet or showers on site, so only self contained units accepted, but at only £21.50/night, it's cheap by today's pricing and a lovely site in a stunning location. Wardens told me bookings are well down this year (I was told the CCC site at Keswick was also quiet!), has the Covid inspired 'camping bubble' finally burst, has the industry priced itself (more in general than this 'cheap' site) out of business, or has the generally lousy weather this year dampened demand? Certainly the CAMC has been having a rethink, prices are down, deposits are down etc. in an attempt to boost bookings! .... and I can't think of previous years where they have thrown quite so many promotional communications at me!

I had a week in the Peak District booked since Jan for an annual rally, and was undecided if to go to the Lakes before or after that week based on weather forecast, and leaving booking until last minute to get the most relevant insight into weather. Rather expected not to find a vacancy at such short notice bearing in mind it was high season, but really didn't fancy a week or more of foul weather (I've had a fortnight of heavy persistent rain in July a few years back when staying in caravan in Coniston, REALLY was not the best of holidays!), so willing to gamble. Turns out it was a non-existent concern, vacancies galore! Booked Lakes for after my Peak District stay, the day before I left for PD, with no problems at all! Good timing on weather, rather nice, with only a couple of bad wet days, so all turned out exceptionally well. Wouldn't normally rely on getting exactly what I wanted at such short notice in the height of the season and a popular site, but not a problem this time!

My experience over the last few years is that many sites are only full at weekends, and often not even then. They may come up as full if you try to book them on a Friday or Saturday, but wait until Monday and they are half-empty. Hence our nearly always starting our holidays on a Monday.

The strange thing is that if we book for a week or two weeks starting on a Monday, that takes us through at least one weekend that was supposedly "fully booked" without any problems. We have never had to move and never had any problem making the bookings.

Not sure if it extended to online booking system as well, I didn't check, but the site I was on put the 'Site Full' sign up at entrance (when it was nothing like full!) for a few days, because word was out that a certain 'Caravan Based Community' were in the area! An inconvenience for genuine campers seeking pitches maybe, but better that than an entire site in fear of what they'd lose to others on site!
