THUMPER2338 mentioned several sites along the river Wye. I have never seen these.

The only one I know there is the Hollybush Inn just outside Hay on Wye.

I am particularly intersted in ones near pubs that allow campfires.

Do you have any deatils?

Thing that realy annoys me about a site with loads of caravans on is you turn up with your tent and they put you miles away from the toilet block, where as all the caravans are all close to the block, and as most caravans have toilet and washing facilitys it seems unfair to me.

might have own facilities but we still got to pay the same..sometimes more :O(

theres one great tent only site in edale..extremely basic, you got a shed looking thing wif a loo and lots of sheep :O) can't remember the name..whenever we went we just turned up wif our little 2 man tent (how things have changed) and a farmer type chappie used to come round for his money.. we were even allowed camp fires (this is back in 96/97/98)

we used it for our base when we used to climb up kinder scout :O)

I'd love to know the name of it lol

Try Tom's Field, Langton Matravers near Swanage on the beautiful Isle of Purbeck.  I woke up there this morning to a clear blue sky with great views of the Isle of Wight on the horizon.   Two pubs a short walk away.

Up in the Yorkshire Dales is a pretty spectacular site, with a brook babbling through it, the path through the site leads directly to Gordale Scar.  Highly recommended.

Wasdale Campsite is a NT site in the Lakes, near Waswater & Scafell.  Cars are left in the carpark, leaving the site for tents only.  Plenty of place to find your own nook, in the shadow of England's highest peak.  Pub in walking distance

Blackberry Wood one near Brighton sounds good.  I haven't been there yet, but they even sell you firewood

hi
as said previously there are a few sites in the lake district that are for tents only (and sometimes campervans)

waterside farm
coniston hall
great langdale
hawkshead
to name a few. not many in lakes except fires though, your better off trying wales- theres a few there

i know what u mean, ive nothing against caravans at all but we do prefer this type of site. usually pretty basic but have what u need - showers, toilets etc. as a tenter you do feel more welcome on these sites rather than an outcast sent to the top field.
