i think part of a camping holiday is having the kids play outside insteasd of being inside watching Telly. However, they should not be annoying other people. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Swingball is what we used to take and I think there is now a football version. The ball doesn't go anywhere saves a lot of aggro.

Last year we had a problem with a family, if they weren't belting a football round they were wacking a cricket ball. It hit the back of the tent with a massive thud, when I looked there's the dad standing with his hands on his hips smirking, very intimidating.

One of my pet hates are campers who play football not bothering if it goes onto a tent, the ball can cause a lot of damage and also is dangerous if it knocks against a cooker stand being used. No problem if they kick the ball around in plenty of space, but I found that once the beer flows it's the parents that join in and couldn't give a damn, after all its their right to enjoy their holiday as they like ..... and sod anyone else. The same goes with the drivers who raz up the camping field not even expecting a kid to come down the track.

We experienced this problem last year down in Kent. The site had a designated area for ball games, but a group of teenagers decided that they were going to play footie outside our tent. After several thuds on the car and on the tent I politely asked them to move over to the proper area, and to my surprise they apologised and moved on.We had no more problems with them. It's nice to see that at least some teenagers have good manners.

Of course, as always it is the actions of the inconsiderate few who cause any problems. And you can bet they will always book the pitch next to me!

> It's nice to see that at least some teenagers have good manners.

I find that quite a lot actually, we get loads of teenagers gathering around the open areas where we live (especially in the summer) and loads of people complain about how intimidating they are.  I can see their point but I don't go out of my way to avoid them and I always find them to be quite polite and friendly whenever I come into contact with them... it could be that I'm a bit of a gorilla and they stay on their best behaviour but I think they generally get a bad press.

They leave loads of litter behind though.

I'm a teenager (18) and I've got very good manners It's just a few give us bad names - I've stayed on sites with my little sister before (She's 13) and I've been pitching the tent and it's obvious people are looking and thinking "Oh no- look at these kids there gonna be trouble" But I put a smile on my face and be polite, and we get accepted into the friendly camping community on the site

We also got a swingball next to us. Never thought of them as anything but good before, but after being woken up each morning at 7am to:

thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...thud...

With the associated vocals which would do any Wimbledon hopeful proud, and hearing it until around 10:30 at night (how could they even SEE it then?!), I was all for sabotaging the ruddy thing!

cant believe you book sites that are family sites, why not book quiet sites, kids will be kids you cant stop them playing, yes they should show respect but not all parents are bad parents.

Just to fill you in on the picture Andy, we booked a small site, right by the beach so as NOT to run into loud inconciderate morons. The 'footballers' arrived with their own 6ft goal and 2 large leather footballs!!!

The warden did ask them to take the goal down and told them that ball games were not allowed but this failed to stop them.

I don't mind kids playing, I have a ten year old boy, but NOT right outside my tent.

I did start to think what were their families doing and then it came too me, they were sitting outside their tents with good food on the BBQ and a chilled glass of wine in hand thinking what a lovely quiet site!!!!!

Please enjoy yourselves but just show some respect for others!

We have two boys who are football mad and love playing with a ball when we are away. However, from the very first time we went away in a our caravan they have always been told that they can only play football if there is a ball games area on the site. Sometimes we go on sites that do have an area such as Beechwood Grange CC site in York but if there isn't one then they accept the ball will have to stay in the car. Our boys, at 6 and 8 understand that balls can easily damage caravans, tents and hurt people if played with around the pitches so why do so many older children have a problem with this concept? We were away recently on a site without an area so our ball stayed in the car. It was all the more annoying to sit in our van waiting for the boy on the pitch next door to hit us with his ball! We did point out that ball games were not allowed near the pitches but we might as well hot have bothered.

I don't feel that balls should be banned completely but they should only be used in designated areas if the site has space. If everyone took this approach there wouldn't be a problem would there?
