If I have got this right it's best to check out which cool camping book you are ordering.  One seems to focus on how to camp in a "stylish" way (it has a flowery tent on the cover?), the other seems to focus more on the campsites themselves.  I have just ordered the second one - hope I chose well. Not sure what this will add though - have found UKCampsite, and all the readers' reviews, to be the best guide yet..........

The one I saw was the Jonathon Knight one not the flowery tent on cover.  I think this was the one featured in the newspapers here's a web address for it http://www.coolcamping.co.uk/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 and is described as a camping guidebook and does discuss the actual sites.

Why do we need a camping book when we got UKCS?  Am I missing something?

Well the South Penquite Farm site is listed here, but no reviews, I posted a note about has anyone been, no response, so for me it was nice to see somebody elses take on it and not the owners.  I haven't bought the book by the way but may do.  Some people like books, with pages as opposed to a computer screen ... there is something nice about picking up a book.

I totally agree Jacqui, I would never waste my money on camping books / site guides, ever again.

Everything you ever need to know , is right here on UKCS.

Me Cool Camping book has just arrived and it is lovely.  Shame it is just England.

WE ARE ALL RIGHT.  Personal recommendation (at least 2 of the sites of the forty have beeen mentioned to us by friends and none of us is mega obsessed by camping) and UK Campsite website can be just as good ( I had previously selected 3 just of the 40 cos of UKCS search facilities coupled with the reviews that we all do on here).

Nice though to look at, relish, plan together, get really interested in, at the coffee table  if u don't want to be glued to the screen all night.  It is a fab book for its price (which is about 6 pounds more than the tesco 5.99 price  - that was the flowery tent one!)

hi webmaster - do not worry, we will not be dragged away from this fab website - just like to read a little book once in a while.  THANKS FOR your intro to all these great places - especially Longnor Wood

I agree, I don't know where I would be without this site it's a great source of information for everything including which site to go to.  The only problem sometimes is where do you start?

By the way the cool camping book does have future publications coming for Wales & Scotland.

My first post! Just returned from a fortnight camping and we used both the Cool Camping book and this website to decide where to go. The only problem with the book is that some of the sites are just tiny wee places and seem unable to cope with the influx of 'Cool Campers' who've used the book to plan their trip. Hooks House Farm in North Yorkshire, in particular, we found unbearably busy with tents crammed in, shoe-horn fashion. Of course, this is the eternal problem with popularity!
In future, I'll be sticking with UKCS!

Yes I can see the risk of these places being too popular but it's interesting that the three peak district sites that chose between for my return to camping last year (after a couple of hour on UKCS) are the three peak district sites that are in the Cool camping book.  I went back to one of them last week (Longnor Wood).  It was full, and we heard the owners turning a number of callers away, but it was NOT overcrowded.  How crowded a site is depends mainly on whether the owners are willing to overcrowd it, not whether they have good reviews (whether these reviews are in a book or on a website). Having said that though I will not be booking any campsite unless I have read the most recent reviews on UKCS.

I recently treated myself to the cool camping book (Knight) and I love it! Yes UKCS is an invaluable resource but if, like me, you spend all day sitting in front of a screen at work then sometimes you don't want to go home and search for campsites on screen too. I think the book is well worth the money for the photography alone.  Lots of bright and bold pictures to inspire you and fill you with anticipation for your next trip.
