Dani - sorry you had a rotten time. But don't give up after just one go - pick your next site very carefully!!!! Err on the side of caution next time just to be safe!

Please make sure you submit a review about this site if you haven't yet done so. Not enough people put reviews on and they're vital for both good and bad factual info. OK, other campers behaving badly can happen anywhere and it isn't the site owners fault - but if they're causing a nuisance to others and the owner is made aware of it then he should have taken action. I'e just had a look at the other reviews about this site and someone else mentioned noisy until 4am. Can't believe anyone could get away with that!!!!

Wait a minute !!

The warden actually got out and tried to sort these nutters out, there are some who don't even do that. And if he did throw them off the site in that drunken state and drove away, he would have had to share the consequences etc... i.e. a no win situation.

Plus it's a bit harsh to 'rubbish' a site because of one group of no brainers who probably didn't and don't know what the canvas thing is they brought with them. Think logically for a few seconds - do you think that is the only site these nutters are going to visit, next time it could be the site you've chosen, anywhere.

Finally this is one of only a handfull of sites that allow things like open fires, something that seems very difficult to find these days, and one that allows single sex groups. There have been a few threads recently complaining that groups of lads are unable to camp - this is why. Because wardens have to deal with groups like the one Dani had to endure. However they are a minority and there are plenty of small groups of lads who are camping without any issues. The more we rubbish sites like this for the behavour of its visitors then the less sites we will have where our own kids can camp, and where we can enjoy open fires etc.

What should be happening is that camp site owners should be sharing names and addresses of these groups to prevent them camping anywhere else - a bit like the pub watch schemes that run in some cities. After all none of us want to end up on the next site they decide to visit.

Dani, I am new here as I only started camping a few weeks ago.

I so wish I had known about this site!!!!!

We made the huge mistake of going to Billing Aquadrome (yes, I know now!!!!)for our first time out and it was truly dreadful. Just like your experience, and I came home feeling the same as you.

But then this site was recommended to me and I haven't looked back!!!!

Please stay and share your experiences with the rest of us. Hopefully, you will soon have some lovely, positive ones to share.

Reference: Restriction of single sex groups. I can never understand why there is a blanket restriction on single sex groups of (on average) under 25's, but not mixed groups. These can be just as rowdy, inconsiderate and disruptive as single sex groups.

Alternatively, I know groups of young men and young women who would like to go away and I know would behave immpeccably.

I think it IS worth mentioning rowdy behaviour in a review as I am always keen to see how a particular site dealt with it as inaction would deter me from staying there.

"And if he did throw them off the site in that drunken state and drove away, he would have had to share the consequences etc... i.e. a no win situation."

I doubt if a single warden would get anywhere trying to throw this many drunken louts off the site.  The police are likely to wash their hands of the problem.

On the continent most sites hold your passport/ID card on the first night.  Perhaps if campsites allow large groups then a suitably large deposit should be demanded and then this could be forfeited for anti-social behaviour.

Just think though, some unfortunates have to put up with neighbours like this all the time.  Your next camping experience can only get better.

Brian

I agree with the comment the police will wash thier hands off it all... we had trouble on a  campsite we visited.  Security was there in force and warned them, they still didn't quiet down so police was called.  However as they'd all had a skinful, they wouldn't make them leave as it would've been an accident waiting to happen. However security did put it's foot down and request they was gone before the office opened next day at 9am. And they was gone by 8.20. Silly thing is that seeing how drunk they was at 2 am they must've still been over the limit at 8am as well. AND to top it off, I found out through speaking to the office staff, they even tried to get their money back for the nights they'd lost. They lost 3 nights in total. And the office also compensated campers who were next to them and thus most disturbed.

Depsite this happening on the first night, we went on to enjoy the rest of our stay. It certainly hasn't put us off going back either.

Firstly, I wouldn't deregister from this site, it's an excellent place to find out just about anything to do with caravanning & camping. The vast membership holds a wealth of knowledge & experience that we can all gain from. I've certainly learnt a lot about my favourite hobby since I joined & hopefully you'll stay & benefit from the lovely people on here.

Secondly, I think you did everyone else a favour by telling the forum about your bad experience on a site, we can only post reports on sites at the time we visit them & when others post varying reports on the same site, members can read all posts & make their own minds up whether to go to that site or not. I for one wouldn't want to go to a site where drunken rowdy yobs are allowed to ruin the holidays for everyone else on the place. There are those who wouldn't care but then, birds of a feather flock together, as they say.

Stick with UKCS for a while, you'll love it.

Hi

great replies as usual and all spot on with advice but just to add to the police washing their hands of the problem because of their reluctance to have drunks driving off site, that shoudnt be an issue, disorderly conduct whether on a busy city street at pub closing time or on a campsite is still disorderly conduct and should be treated as such by the police attending. The problem that the police have is if they attend and it is all quiet on their arrival even if the site operators want them off site it is a civil matter and the police have no power to eject them from the site. Most of the larger sites have obviously contact with the local police whether it be through thefts or disorder and they do try and work together to get a resolution but we dont live in a perfect world.
