They can build lodges or put statics all over the place for all I care. I,m never going there ever again. Who in thier right mind would want an 85k wooden shed in Northamptonshire for a holiday home ???? strange.

Actually it wasn't advertised as a holiday home...
Several years ago, when I worked in the area, people did live there "unofficially"....but the park was shut from October to March...I don't know if that's still the case

It is not in the interests of site owners to allow static van or cabin owners 12 months unhindered access.  If they do, the site becomes a 'residential park' and the static van or cabin owners have many more rights.  Most site owners will licence the site for only 10 or 11 months of the year to maintain their status as a ‘holiday site’ and their rights to impose a host of rules and regulations to ensure their revenue stream.  Having said that many site owners will bend the rules to allow people to stay on site.

New owners have introduced new periods of occupancy.........and new fees.

Previously the park wouls close "officially" early in Jan and reopen about 14th Feb, 6 wk closure. Now, it seems that early Jan date is later, and the re-open is 7 feb (or thereabouts, hence only a 1 month closedown.

But the sting comes here. When previously ground rent was payable from 4th Feb till the end of the summer season Nov 5th (or thereabouts) the fact they are allowing you to return 1 week earlier, they've increased the rent by several hundred £'s, to allow for all the extra wages required for all thos people who service the place.

The thing is, for many people, taking occupancy before APRIL is almost TOO soon, but to open up as early as that and increase rent, is not user friendly. So many owners are saying they feel the extra revenue being brought in is not in their favour as they won't be using the vans as early as that, and in any case, not all have central heating.

Incidently, those who DO occupy for those 11 months, do not pay TV licence, do not pay water rates and if they don't tell anyone, presumably get away without paying council tax. No BT phone rental also. You simply pay for any heat you use, be it gas/electricty.

There was a very interesting feature on the BBC TV local news last night in which various authoratitive people were saying that with all the building that has gone on in the Northampton area, especially since the flood of 1998, it would come as no surprise for it to happen again. They acknoweldge that in the '98 flood it was as a result of a series of circumstances but with wet winters now forcast and stormy summers, another set of cicumstances could bring another flood. Remember it wasn't just the town that suffered.

Picture the scene, you're new to camping/vanning and you've been looking on the net for sites to visit. You come across Billing Aquadrome and note that it's a water themed park, so you plan to visit, hey ho.

On leaving the A45 you note that within 2/3 mins, you will be at the park gates. True. But in those few minutes, you pass on your left, the local recycling centre (rubbish dump), then almost next door on the left, is the local treatment works (sewerage works). Your next view on either side of the road are disused abandoned warehouses which stand forelorn and derelict.

One swift turn on the roundabout and you pass the "can we wash your car mister?" brigade, spoken in broken english.

Entry to the park follows once payment is made and yes, it is a water park so what do you get in water parks ? yes ducks, and what do ducks do, why s*** of course. It dosn't smell, as it is made up of grass etc, but it aint half greasy and slippery.

Once parked up, you are then free to enjoy yourself, again hey ho!

Guss you are not impressed then Danny.

Surely any field immediately adjacent to a river is high risk for flooding?

Yes, but some are designated "high risk" as being on a flood plain. You try telling an insurance company where your van is located and they say "post code please?" and once you tell them and especially if the site has been flooded before, they say "no".

I rather get the impression that you're not happy with your static - or rather its location- any more So - what are your actual options?

Billing Aquadrome = the worst camping experience I have had!!!!!

If only I had been aware of this site before we went there!

I wouldn't go back if they paid ME to go!!!!

Sorry, danny, I thought I remembered from a past thread that you had a static there - perhaps it was someone else, or my memory playing tricks.

This takes me back. Many years ago we lived in Ecton - small village - 5 miles outside Northampton (now in it!) - and as teenagers used to walk(!) to the Willow Tree disco at Billing Aquadrome. Also went down sometimes for the day and always envied people who had caravans there. Don't think I would like it now.

I am going back about 35 years!

Now isn't that interesting. There were two lads from ecton in my class at Westfield School, one was Trevor Buswell who I thought went into the police service, but quite recently heard that he has been appearing at places like Butlins as a musician. Then there was his mate who's flippin name escapes me for the moment. I'll give it more thought. I'm going back 50 yrs.
