Sorry I will look out for your "terrorists"! Are they easily recognisable?

We live less than a mile from this site. I can't tell you much about the site as living so close we never use it. It always has plenty of caravans on it though. The area across the road is excellent for walking we take the dog up there most weekends. Also there is Hardwick Hall a couple of miles away (free to get in the grounds) with a nice pub. Brierly Forest Country Park is less than a mile the other way also good for walking dogs.

Thanks Hoppityfrog,do you know if the local pubs near the site let dogs in?

Can't understand why they fill up from the back Elaine can you because the pitches are all different sizes, some aren't big enough for a van and an awning. They could end up with a tiny camper on a big pitch and a van on a small pitch and not being able to put up an awning.

Just what we said!

Hi All,

Your starting to worry me a bit now!!!!! - but I'm an eternal optimist.

We have a fairly big caravan but it also has a motor mover - so will try and avoid leaving 4x4 tracks in the manicured lawn. I have to say though, I do not accept rudeness from people who are paid to give Customer Service - holidays should be a happy experience! (So Wardens be warned)  I am a tough talking Yorkshire/Jock with a Braveheart spirit. VBennett - if you recognise our Van (Crusader Aurora - towed by Green Pajero 4 x 4) ......and our two Terriorists (Puppy Jack Russell - dead cute! & Black & Tan Cross Terrior-ist) - knock on the van door & say hello. My dogs love good walkies, going to the pub & old fella & I enjoy a good Stella anytime. Will have some in the Van, if you can't find your way to the Pub. We've booked tomorrow off work, so will be there about Lunch-time.

Safe Journey to everybody on the roads this weekend (with Tin Tents in Tow).

Jan (Jackrascals)

Just to let you know that when i went to this site in Nov, the warden was very good and directed me onto my pitch and navigated me into position which meant i went over the corner of an area of grass and there was no problem regarding this. The roadways between the pitches is rather tight tho.

Take your wellies.

Hope all goes well.

I forget to mention that when I booked I was the first to book for a gathering of about 15 units but was the last to arrive I phoned a couple of weeks before to say I would arrive the morning after I originally planned to.
When I got there they had no record of this change & were planning to put me among another gathering as they said the pitch they allocated to me had been given to another in my group. Eventually they found me a slot within my group.

Also every time I tried to go pay they kept telling me they were too busy & that I should come back, I finally managed to pay on the final day & then as I said earlier they charged me an extra £5 (presumably for the night I cancelled!)

When the rest of the gathering left we were surrounded by empty pitches all around by about 5 pitches on all sides.
Despite this they put people in the pitches at both sides of us & opposite us. Easier to keep an eye on us all that way I guess!

Oh yes, it was a C&CC site but they seemed more bothered about their super toilet award than keeping the customers happy.

Hi Everybody,

Well! found the Site ok by following the Camping & Caravan Club Map and not the AA (which took you down some windy Lanes). First impressions not bad, Staff seemed helpful & friendly. They did mention the grass & to avoid walking under the barriers & to make sure we did not follow any other vehicles under barriers. Pitch definately tight but with nice view of the hill (Country Park). Great walks in the Park & so nice to see this former Mining area transformed.

Nice to meet you Val & sorry for embarrasment caused when you introduced yourselves to the wrong Terrier...ists. Bet the owners thought you were bonkers!! The real Terrior...ist was causing real terror by offending the Victor Meldrew parked behind us, when he ran behind our Caravan a couple of times (the Puppy that is ... not Victor Meldrew). I know !!! I know !!! all dogs should be on leads the Rules state. Try telling that to a six month ball of fluff on four legs. Sorry we did not see you on the walk Hoppityfrog - we got back from a walk to Hardwick Hall just after Lunch & had a Barbeque (can you believe it)?

Enjoyed being able to order Daily Papers, bread & bacon & sausages from Reception without having to get in the car. Toilets nice & clean & warm. Would I visit the Site again - possibly! I found the area generally quite sad .... this used to be a big Mining Area, as was Barnsley our nearest Town. I think that Barnsley has benefited from new Industry, Housing, Grants etc but the North Notts, Sutton Coldfield area hasn't. Still - the re-claiming of its former Minefields into wonderful woodlands & parks can only be good for the area & hopefully bring further tourism & more money, which I believe they need. I wish them well!!!

Next trip booked - not until mid-March, so can anyone tell us about any other Sites opened in February no more than a couple of hours drive from Sheffield. for a quick weekend???

Cheers (Jan Jackrascals) Mother of the Terrior...ists

PS Val - you didn't get a Stella ....... will catch up some other time!!!
