The only thing is im concerned the hall seems quite a formal campsite ? Is it ? because personally I hate proper cmapsites ,prefere a field with a tap in it and a great view ! BUT were having to adapt to mum being with us this time!
We're very much basic bog and shower campers, if you know what I mean. We don't go to big sites often and I haven't been on one yet with a bar - we like our peace and quiet. There are no numbered pitches or anything at Castlerigg Hall - its go where you like.

Just want to add my vote for Castlerigg farm. Not tried the Hall site, which looks fantastic too, but was full on our first visit to Keswick so had to go to farm site. Been back again and again, fantastic views, staff very friendly and helpful and love the sound of sheep in the morning.
Looks like its going to have to be the C&CC site at Keswick , Castlerigg are refusing to move on the 'no booking for tents ' rule and to be honest I dont feel like taking the risk with mum being disabled ! If it had been just us I wouldn't have been so concerned !
Well due to the info in the big book being sketchy to say the least ,anyone got a lil more info please ?
Main points
How busy exactly are we taking about ,not 'haven'busy ? Do they have a play area ? Are the showers free ? how often does it flood ? has it ever been an issue for anyone in summer ?
Erm think thats about it for now ,thanks for letting me pick your brains!!
Never been to the C&CC site in the Summer but was there last week and all the hardstanding pitches were fully booked Fri to Sun for the last two weeks and they were turning people away.. Most were couples in caravans/motorhomes so when the kids are on holiday and tent pitches are taken it must be a nightmare. The site was underwater for most of the 10days we were there but you expect that this time of years but I understand it is still a problem during the summer. There is a small play area, showers are free but not the best on C&CC sites and busy even this time of year.
Close to town and lovely out of season. Would I go June, July, August? definitely not, I stick with March and October.
I would love to go out of season but unfortunatly we havent 2 children of school ages its not an option ! Its not our usual choice of site ,we prefere a field with a tap and a view ,worried this might be a bit of a culture shock!!
It's a lovely site, we stayed here just after Easter a few years ago (could not get booked for the actual Easter w/e). It was quite dry then. We were backed onto a river that flows into the lake and I saw a kingfisher on a branch from the back window. Also lovely spring flowers by the lake and the view of Skiddaw of course.
