I hate people who invade my space (so does OH). I'm sited, and all the pitches in our field are located around the edges. I'm purposely quite far down so I don't get much passing traffic (weekenders tend to park closer to the facilities - what there are!), but this weekend a van parked on our offside, and for some reason, instead of just walking past the fronts of the vans, he kept running through my pitch, between me and the van on my near side, and around the back of my van! Now, maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't think this was the proper etiquette, I'd never dream of cutting through someone's pitch, or down the back of the vans. I always walk past the fronts and make sure the kids do too. I'm quite a sociable person and often get complete strangers in a liplock. I don't like using windbreakers because I like to say hello to anyone that passes (I'm also quite nosey), and the only people I've seen use them have given off a "Don't talk to me!" kind of vibe (apologies to jonespa!). Just don't be running around my van! I was just about to put up our little beach tent around the back (the kids often play in it) which would stop him cutting through, when they went. It wasn't even a short cut, I think he was being purposely annoying. 2 other things they did - the dog was always getting off his spike and was sniffing around like he was about to pee on my kids bikes, and they kept jumping over the fence behind us into the tent field instead of walking around. Might seem a small thing, but the owners are growing new firs on the other side as a windbreak and it wouldn't take much to snap the branches. I went away with my friend and she was joking I should carry a clipboard around, noting infringements, I'm like a Hall Monitor - I can't help being anal, its just in my nature ! I think it stems from stupid people taking liberties and spoiling it for normal people (like the ones who stepped in the vomit! )
Hi Karen,
May I say that I echo your sentiments entirely and you are certainly NOT being anal - whatever that means!
In my opinion we have rented our pitches for whatever period and it is ours to do whatever we like within the rules of the campsite.I wouldn't use my neighbour's front garden at home as a shortcut, and I certainly wouldn't do so at a campsite. Therefore I do NOT expect others to do it to me.
Also people don't realise how their voices carry when the air is still and I hate being faced with the prospect of having to tell someone to reduce their noise.
Trouble is that these days there are those that care and there are those that don't give a toss and our pastime seems to attract more than its fair share of the latter.
Cheers!
Vic

I can sympathise with all of you who have had space invaders.
We have even had it on half empty sites- one example this holiday a family pitched their tent literally 0.5m away from ours, I even caught him moving our guy lines, the cheeky beggar
But why there? WHY?
Because he's a knob?????

Thanks for that Vic - there seem to be a few like-minded people on here, its a shame the idiots don't read it and recognise themselves!
I'd agree with the carrying voices - I always keep radios down low because my neighbours shouldn't have to listen to my choice in music, though I usually end up listening to theirs. Plus its really annoying at night when the neighbours are chatting in the awning and - to be fair to them - don't realise how far away they can be heard. I'm not the subtlest of people (I'm known for being blunt), and I find myself rehearsing what to say, in case I offend, should I need to speak up, thereby getting myself all worked up in the process, instead of just having a quick word. I'm already getting worked up about August Bank Holiday when I know the peace will be shattered - we always seem to have idiots right behind us. Swore we'd never go again, but we've booked the week off work and the kids have fun.
I've tried getting OH to have a word, he's calmer than me, but he always says "Don't make a fuss, they're bound to shut up in a minute!" or "Have a word in the morning, when you've calmed down". He won't complain about anything!!!
