Can you leave the water heater on whilst having a shower to maintain the supply of hot water?  I want to use the shower when in France as I'm not keen on unisex facilities. I am assuming that it functions like a combi boiler - am I right?

You can leave the heater on but when the hot has run out you will have to wait for it to heat up again, bit like an immersion heater.

Not all French sites have unisex facilities. Most we've been on have been separate.

We decided when we bought our van that we wouldn't use the shower. It's tiny anyway, and it would be a pain in the butt drying the loo etc. Also don't fancy the water going all over the window and the blind.

We unscrew the shower head and put the hose out of the window for filling the toilet flush though

Hadn't thought of showering the dogs by putting the shower head out of the window - note to self: tip for showering smelly dogs

After years of camping, the toilet is heaven. But only for number 1s - no number 2s or else!

I cannot bear the thought of sitting on the loo with somebody in a cubicle next door, so we use our own facilites for everything!

We find that if you turn on both gas and electric, the gas side heats the water to a higher temperature so you get hotter water to mix with your cold, giving you more useable water. The gas puts out more "power" than the electric, so also heats/reheats faster.Put the gas on about 15 minutes before you shower.

Leave both on while showering and while soaping it will be reheating, so you gain a little more warm water.

Turn off gas as soon as you are finished to save gas.

You should not leave the water running while soaping as you will soon run out of hot water.

Be sure to start with a full Aquaroll and an empty Wastemaster if not on a serviced pitch.

Thanks jennifernn, that's is what I'll do.  I must also agree with Windywoo about the cubicle sitting, not the best part of camping holidays

Cheers

I have no problems with cubicles, but the lack of toilet seats and often paper on many French sites is not conducive to using site facilities!
