My apologies for not updating this thread last year - lol.
I thought I had then came looking today and realise I did not.
For anyone interested, here is what happened.
==================
After discussing in the thread what we wanted from our holiday and the info people gave, we decided to goto Treen Farm.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4996
The "No booking" system they have only added to the excitement of the Holiday as you really have no idea where you will be staying until you get there :)
Going by what others mentioned, we planned to get there by 6am. We were travelling from Nottingham so planned to set off about midnight.
I was unable to get time off work that night so ended packing the car at midnight (rather stressfull - lol) so we did not manage to depart until around 2am.
The 6 hour plus drive was easier than I expected thanks to a couple of cans of Red Bull. Before I knew it, we were at Bristol and then into Devon and then into Cornwall. The kids were awesome as they slept most of the way.
We arrived into the car park in Treen village just before or just after 8pm.
For those who are unaware, Treen Farm allocate pitches on an ad-hoc daily basis which means no pre booking. You turn up and those first in line get the available pitches for that day.
Once parked up in the car park (there were not too many cars there) the gentleman who owns/runs the site clocked us and took down our name. He advised us to go to the site office/shop which is up the track to your right before you go into the car park at around 10AM as they should know how many pitches they have at that point to allocate.
We were hungry so went to the Cafe near the car park which was rather nice from what I recall. We stretched our legs and it was 10AM by this point.
We went upto the site office/shop.
There were many more people present waiting for pitches, more than the number of cars I had seen in the car park. The site does seem very popular with backpackers.
They called out names in order from the list and those present were allocated pitches. The final name was read out, it was not ours. We were next on the list.
We had a backup plan (Well, just noted some other sites on the way in) so we were prepared to move on when a lady advised us to sit tight for a few minutes as someone who had booked in for the night MIGHT be leaving a day early as they had to be back at work earlier than expected or something but they were not sure what the patron was doing.
They came back to us and informed us that the person was infact leaving later in the day so we could have their pitch later in the day when they left. Cue smiles all round from us.
They took us round in their car to show us the site and the specific pitch which was sea facing in the lower field and AMAZING.
We were told to come back at around 3pm.
We took a strole through the fields down to Pednvounder Beach which is one of the best beaches I have been to. I would not suggest attempting the short walk to the beach with a pushchair though, it starts off OK then gets steeper with steps. Not impossible, but not for the feint of heart either :)
Spent the rest of the morning/early afternoon on there, grabbed some lunch then took a strole back to the site. We noticed our pitch was empty so went to the site office and they gave us the all clear to pitch up.
Treen Farm is THE best camp site I have EVER been to.
If I had to summarise it in two words, I would say Simple and Beautiful but the beauty of it is far from simple.
All pitches seemed to have a wooden bench which was a nice touch and pitches were generously sized.
The toilet/shower/washing facilities were great and were regularly attended.
I spoke to one guy who had been there for 2 months or something, I can understand why.
The site attracts nice people and although our 10 month was far from the quietest little thing in town, nobody said a word or gave us any odd looks.
We stayed there for 8 nights and we all had a blast. Was soo nice to come back to the site knowing it was "home" after a day out. Felt safe for the little ones too.
The staff onsite (I think it is family run) were very friendly and helpful so I do not have bad word to say about the site other than the best camp site in such an amazing part of the world.
Thank you to all those who helped us chose our holiday in Cornwall.
I also have to say that I agree with the comments in the thread that Lands End was is VERY underwhelming. Overly commercialised to the point of being stupid.
The Lizard however was amazing. The old style Cafe in the village though was really good, proper home made meals/cakes.
And, to the person who told me "You should look elsewhere if you do not want to spend £30+ a night" - :p
