Right, think I've got an itinery sorted.

Leave home and overnighting somewhere on the way (439  miles) to Pine Trees where we plan to stop for 4 nights.

From there it's down to Muasdale (88 miles) on the Kintyre peninsular for 5 nights before taking the Lochranza ferry over to Arran to stop at Seal Shore (53 miles) for another 5 nights.

Using the second part of a hopscotch ticket to get the ferry to Ardrossan on our long journey home (428 miles), maybe stopping off somewhere overnight to break up the journey.

Have you been to pine trees before? It's a site I love so much I keep my caravan there for the whole season. We head up there weekends that we're not tent camping and loads over the summer holidays. You'll love it there but take lots of midge repellent at that time of year.

I loved my stay at Seal Shore a few years ago....sitting out on the deck at the hotel next door at sunset, and visiting friends who live there...BUT for goodness sake don't lose your ferry ticket....I did, had it in my hand one minute and by the time I got to Brodick it was gone....girl at the office could see my booking on the system but rudely said I could have sold my ticket to someone else.....cost me another £100 (plus a big dent on the side of the van from a bike's handlebars on the ferry) :(

I see Aran every day from my workshop. Looks pretty ordinary from here!

This is very unusual for Calmac. I use them weekly (through work). on all the Hebrides, they are brilliant to deal with and nothing has ever been a hassle in the last 15 years of using them..

Do you guys not find Muasdale too close to the main A83?

I am hard of hearing so will not hear the A83, and with the view available in the opposite direction I don't think I'll be looking at it much either.

I am not decrying Muasdale at all, its a nice wee spot/site, I find that the road plays a major factor with this site but this is due to me having a couple of small kids(won't be an issue once they are older). We tend to go a few miles further down to Killegruer, as its a bit further away from the road and the beach is great for our needs. If we were all the same it would be a boring place.

I hope you have a great holiday in this wonderful part of the country - I'm biased as i only live 1/2hr away

I had not considered Killegruer, mainly because they do not have a web site.  Looking at the photos, the touring pitches look a little swamped by static caravans.

I'm not trying to change your mind scarletsfan, you will have a great time at Muasdale, i just thought i would mention the close proximity of the main road incase you had a young family.
At Killegruer the statics are back from the edge of the beach leaving this space free for pitches, also the pitches extend wider than the static part of the site, so no-one in front or behind you...bliss! Ha..

Doesn't matter where you are on this part of Kintyre views are stunning and beaches like paradise, seals galore too, and skies full of stars (weather dependent) , and folk are so lovely.

Hope you have a lovely time
