I don’t mean to offend here but surely it’s a case of campers of all types of unit – to some extent, at least – causing the problem? With the trend to much larger tents, more home comforts, EHU, wi-fi, hard-standing etc plus some wanting entertainment/pools, etc., then the installation and maintenance costs are obviously going to hike prices. Add to that the popularity of some areas which are inherently more expensive and it’s little wonder that prices get hiked.
I’m not knocking those who want and in some cases really need EHU – think it’s great that people who require meds to be kept refrigerated can get out camping – but being old-fashioned, just feel that if you’re a family and want EHU etc., most prices mentioned seem reasonable.
Ok, talking as a singleton, who, because I camp in association with a hobby and often have no choice of site, I seriously object to paying £17 a night plus £3 for EHU which I don’t want – I hope that puts some of the points others are making into perspective?

Reading all the above, and to offer a price comparison, us paying £20 a night for a tent with or without electric at White Rose naturist club near York with the use of a heated pool, occasional sauna, miniten/tennis courts, beautiful new shower and toilet facilities, fridge/freezer plus a social clubhouse in the evening with a bar seems spectacularly good value, oh and I didn't mention the free wifi either. Yorkshire Sun Society near Hull offers similar for £19.
Both of course run by the members for members, so there is no paid staff.I wonder what the charge would be if they were commercial sites. However, I have also visited Croft naturist club near Wisbech in the past which is in fact a commercial site,(not with a tent on that occasion )and the rate there on its website is £25 which taking into account the facilities it offers is also pretty good.

I have to agree with this. If I was expecting all of the above I would expect to pay more than £25 a night (probably closer to £40+), which in my eyes would still be great value for a family!
We're paying £27 a night at Fforest Fields for 2 Adults, 1 child and EHU for 7 nights first week of August and they don't have entertainment, swimming pools etc. (although they have a lake for swimming and good surroundings, which is why we chose it!). They do, however, offer 7 nights for the price of 6 all year round which is nice especially during school holidays.
I've just returned from a basic site just outside of Falkland (Fife) called "Pillars of Hercules"  where I was charged £8 a night per adult (there were only 2 of us so £16 a night) for a lovely pitch in a stunning location, access to water/toilets/showers/ but no EHU, it was a great place!
