£4 doesn't sound much tbh, next time you go elsewhere you might easily spend more than that on extra petrol to get there or shower surcharges it something else. If you like the site and it's good value to you, go there again. If not, don't.

I take it you have not read my other posts in the thread.

The price hike was a jump of 6 GBP per night from my booking that they made for me back in July 2022.

For the booking they made for me in July 2022, they informed me I had to pay an extra of 38 GBP on top of the 130 GBP that I had already paid.

They then charged me an extra 6 GBP per night, 36 GBP for 6 nights, making a total of 74 GBP for me to pay.

I paid them 78 GBP by mistake, giving them an extra 4 GBP.

And no, had it been just 4 GBP extra overall, I would not have peeved about it.

Here are the prices quoted since June 2021 for avoidance of confusion, all for 1 pitch with EHU, grass or fully service hardstanding (EHU + Water + Grey Waste):

June 2021 for Late September 2021 for a work trip: 21 GBP Grass and 26 GBP Hardstanding, and I paid 78 GBP for 3 nights then.

August 2021 to extend the stay in September 2021: I paid an extra 52 GBP.

August 2021: trip in September 2021 postponed to January/February 2022 due to Covid concerns, the campsite agreed to deferred the stay and kept the 130 GBP I had paid to date.

December 2021: work trip in January 2022 cancelled due to Covid concerns. Planned to stay in May 2022.

April 2022: Trip in May 2022 cancelled, campsite agreed to carry the payment forward to June 2023.

May 2022: Dates for June 2023 confirmed by me.

July 2022: Booking made for me by the campsite, stating the price structure for 2023, at 28 GBP per night for Grass with EHU, with an additional 38 GBP to pay.

June 2023 a week before my stay: I checked the prices and discovered a Grass + EHU pitch had gone up to 34 GBP from 28 GBP in July 2022 when they made the booking for me. I offered to pay the extra without being prompted, and they accepted without even a thank you in their response.

I paid 78 GBP against the required 74 [38+(6x6)] GBP by mistake, and extra 4 GBP extra. I have received no communication about this mistake to date.

The price hike I was referring to, was the 6 GBP increase from July 2022 when they made the booking for me at 28 GBP based on THEIR pricing structure for 2023, to 34 GBP in June 2023 when I checked the prices a week before my stay.

On top of that, the 4 GBP extra that I paid by my mistake that they had not noticed or acknowledged.

I do not normally quibble about price increases within reason. However, this is different in that the 6 GBP per night increase was not communicated to me at all. I offered to pay this increase in good grace when I discovered this by chance, and they accepted it without showing any sign of being grateful. Not to mention the 4 GBP extra that I paid by mistake - again, nothing!

As I mentioned, all these left a sour taste in my mouth. Perhaps I was expecting some sort of gratitude and got none.

However, having had a chat with the owner when I suggested the shower cubicles could do with some hanging baskets for soap and shampoo etc. as there was none, and got a long list of reasons why it would not be a good idea, which gave me the impression that it was too much work/hassle/etc. for him, and I decided not to return for certain.

Fforest Fields in Builth Wells which I consider as having the best facilities of all campsites I have stayed to date charges 150 GBP for 6 nights Grass with 10A EHU in July 2023 for early July 2023, and would happily pay for that!

That would be just about on my upper limit, but I would expect to get decent toilets and showers for that. 10amp EHU is fine for me as we don't use all that much. I presume it is included in the price. We prefer grass pitches, especially if they are random and not all regimented in rows.

Funny you mention that site we’ve visited that site twice for visiting the Royal Welsh Show. The first we thought it was great and indeed we booked there for the show again. But my god that site has gone down hill, granted it was very busy but the state of the bins overflowing shower areas swamped in water and generally the pitches were in need of attention ( we were in a hard standing)
What I will say we normally only ever use adult only sites of which this site isn’t. We left early as a lot of the kids on there were out of control who never seem to have any parental guidance, one was even roaring about on a quad bike, apparently a member of the family that owned the site.

Yup, all in, and they facilities block is truly first rate, very thoughtful such as fridges and freezers for the guests to use, mobile phone charging points, café with good selection of food and drink, a well-stocked shop that operates on a honesty box system to this date (I last stayed there last year).

Pick your own pitch on arrival and definitely not regimented.

It is a lovely site and truly unique.

I had only stayed there during non-school holidays, and had not experienced the issues you described.

The issue with feral critters and ankle biters did occur for my last trip on the day I arrived on Saturday. However, they disappeared on Sunday and the site was nice and quiet again and I could hear a pin dropped, bliss!

I think what you're saying is :

You booked 3 nights hard stand for Sep 21 at £26 pn = £78, average £26 pn.

Then you booked an extra 2 nights hard stand at £26 pn = £52, total now £130 for 5 nights

Then the date was changed a few times but finally moved to June 23 at £28 pn for grass stand, going by the sums you must have added another night on here, 6 nights at £28 pn = £168 minus the £130 already paid leaves a balance of £38, total now £168 for 6 nights.

Is it possible that the move from Sep to Jun involved moving from one tariff to another btw ?

Then you found out it was actually £34 pn and so volunteered to pay the extra £6 pn , which was £36 for 6 nights, total now £204 for 6 nights, average £34 pn.

So it's gone up by £8 pn from 2021 to 2023 but possibly moved to a Summer tariff, is that correct ? Personally I would have kept quiet about the latest price increase, its quite possible they were going to ignore it for you but accepted since you volunteered, but each to their own.

The booking they made for me back in July 2022 for June 2023's stay was based on their supposingly new tariff for 2023 at 28 GBP per night for a Grass with EHU pitch.

It then jumped to 34 GBP per night when I checked their website a week before my stay, and I offered to pay the extra.

With hindsight, perhaps I should have kept quiet as they should have honoured the rate when they made the booking for me back in July 2022. However, I thought times are hard for everyone, so I offered to pay the extra etc...

Hey ho!

Sounds like my kind of site, but they have clearly gone out of my price range now. £25 maximum all included. We only ever go in school term time these days as our days of camping with our kids are long over. We are great-grandparents now as several of our grandchildren are adults.
