As an ex-static owner on a Haven site, I agree with the all the comments that Haven are crap. They don't care about the people who own the statics either, you are also treated like 2nd class citizens even though you have bought your van and are paying extortionate ground rent. I jacked it in after 5 years because of the treatment I received from Haven. I'll never set foot on another of their sites.

Yes Southerness is a large static site as well, with a lot of owners on site.  I will get around to doing a review.  I did call at reception as we were leaving to comment on how impressed we were.  I have been camping for over 25 years and have been to all sorts of sites, farmers fields, large commercials, the lot.  On the whole prefer smaller sites, but every now and then take teenagers to somewhere with swimming pools etc. I have to admit I have been put off staying on a touring park at a Haven site,  My son, after leaving college worked for Haven/British Holidays(Kent and Essex), Pontins(Blackpool) and Parkdean.(Highlands Scotland)  He left Pontins after 3 days,  Literally phone call "Mum, get me out of here, it is minging, looks like a prison camp!!!"

Went to Thorpe park earlier this year, stayed in a static van big site but every thing clean and well maintained. It might be differant in high season but can't complain. Have used Hoseasons Holidays for over 20 years and not had bad accomodation yet.the brochure is very clear and the statics even the basic ones are well equipped.

We stayed at Warmwell in Dorset owned by Parkdean a few weeks ago and it was awful the Chalet was Damp and full of Mildew, The beds and settee were damp as well,  Everywhere was bad. There were Rats running around on the Balcony outside.

The entertainment in the clubhouse was just as bad....

No we will not be taking up another Sun offer (newspaper) again.  We will be staying on smaller site's in the future. I have stayed at Haven's Littlesea in Weymouth and was not very good either and vthat was 7years ago.

Aly...........

Don't know what group it is but we went to Blue Dolphin at Scarborough a few years ago.  The static we hired was filthy.  The van behind us had had a blocked sewer for god know's how long and the poo was stacked up outside the pipe about 2 ft high.  The pool should have been closed down.  There were tiles missing throughout and the walls were covered in mildew.  The site buildings were covered in graffiti.  The children's entertainer clearly hated kids and was absolutely horrible.

But you have to complain, and do it in writing as well as while you are there.  We got moved to another van, got a full refund for the whole holiday.  Given the use of a TV as there wasn't one in the deal we had paid for as compensation for not going to the entertainment area.  (it was so filthy we just couldn't face it).

On returning home, we contacted the environmental health department at the local council in Scarborough.   A couple of days later I got a phone call from an inspector using his mobile phone whilst at the site.  He said he was there inspecting the pool and could I describe the problems.  He said that they were working on it and it was in fact closed down, but if they hadn't he was there to have it closed down until it had been improved.

You really have to complain to the right people to get things done.

We stayed at Greenacres, Porthmadog this may.  Our caravan was supposed to be Gold but definitely was'nt.  It looked as though the last occupants had raided the place.  There were picture hooks on the walls but no pictures, a big crack in the washbasin Grease all over the cooker, no baking tray for the oven, I went and asked for one but was told they were on order and had'nt got any (obviously everyone steals them) The curtain was hanging off the rail by the door and one door did'nt like locking from the outside.  I complained and some things were put right in the caravan.  When I got home I wrote a letter to complain, I was not happy when they sent me a letter with no stamp on and I had to go and pay to collect it from the post office!  They offered us a 3 night luxury break out of season but I don't want to go back there again.

I think it was this holiday that encouraged me to get a bigger tent to take the kids camping instead of booking into one of these statics.  Now instead of one 2 man tent we have also got a 4 man for just me and the kids and a 12 man for when we go for longer stays with Charlie or other family in tow too.  I'm really glad we did too me and the kids have been away 3 times in the summer that we would'nt have done so Thanks Haven/British Holidays/whatever your name is Your bad accomodation did us a big favour!
