You wouldn't have booked a touring pitch for 2007 while you were there Nigel. They only take forward booking for the statics. The touring pitches can't be booked for next season until November.

I agree it'll be interesting to see what improvements are made to the facilities during the closed season. I'll be there next year hoping to see some myself.

wow - how can a site get such differing reports in the space of 12 months.

Because everyone wants something different from a campsite or holiday.  I think many of the bad experiences are with people who are not used to staying on commercial sites.

I would be willing to compromise a bit for a site with the location of Pentawen

Hello Janey87

As far as B24 is concerned, it'll be a lovely level pitch, Apart from the odd front row pitch, they all are. Electric, water & a drain will be very close. Pentewan claim all pitches to be 13x13 metres in size. We find them OK for a big-ish van with awning & two annexes. I see in this new brochure, the current toilet block near the slipway & very close to B24 would seem to be being rebuilt to a toilet/shower block. If this is the case then you'll be close to the newest block on the site but not that close to the beach play area. I'd say that on B24 you'll be 50 metres from the beach across two rows of G field pitches & the one site road. This is a safe, dead end road, which only serves those few G field pitches, you'd be about 200/250 metres/ about a minute walking from the play area. It does look as though B22 & 23 are also big pitches because they bound the start of the double row si these three pitches may be larger than 13x13 metres.

If they don't do the toilet/shower block by the slipway, this is currently just a toilet block & a rebuild into a toilet/shower block is what it needs. However, you'll see a block down by B36, this is an old block with showers & toilets in it. The showers are massive & as long as they've left them alone, they're better that a power shower.

We've stayed on B13 which is nice & as close to the play area as B24, we also stay on C field, this however is a longish walk to the play area.

The site is the only one along the mevagissey to st Austell road with beach access & now it has a card entry system, only residents of the site can come in with their vehicles which makes the site roads nice & safe for the kids staying there.

Feel confident booking your pitch there, the kids will love the beach & it's so nice to be there & not have to get in the car to find some sand for them to play in. I know some opinions differ, mine are personal moans about the need for some facilities to be updated but we've been going since the late 1970s & will continue to do so as long as I can afford it.

The site shop is not cheap but it does carry all good label stuff. We only use it for the french bread & pastries which are baked on site & available almost all the time subject to stock of course. We also run to St Austell for our main shops, we use Lidls, Tesco & Asda there as well as the odd trip to the two burger outlets all of which are on the pentewan side of the town & you can be there in 10 minutes from the site in the car. There was a large redevelopment in the town where the old Tesco stood, what that'll be I don't know.

If I can tell you anything else about it, leave your email address & I'll mail you.

We have recently booked Pentewan for Whitsun and having found this thread I'm starting to worry.

We are booked on pitch E63 which in an end row near The Willows. We had asked for a quiet EHU camping pitch and this area was suggested. Does anyone know this area of the site?

Also does anyone know what the toilet block is like between A and E fields?

We are not likely to be in the clubhouse every night and prefer a quiet drink at the tent when the kids are in bed. I'm starting to worry that I need to go hunting again for a different site?

In my experience of the site last year I would not hesitate in going back. In fact I tried to book a pitch on the 1st November by telephone and it took me all day to get through and I was unable to book the week we wanted. We have now booked a wednesday to wednesday pitch of the week before. I would suggest that the real demand to get on the site illustrates how popular it is. I agree that some of the facilities were "aged" but they were functional and most importantly clean. In fact on our last stay in August 06 I got a little frustrated by the frequency that the cleaning staff were at work cleaning the toilets and showers.

At the end of the day peoples preferences dictate their view of a site and ultimately their lasting impression of the site as a whole. I can only say that we spent a week at Pentewan last year when the weather was at its best, in the company of new friends and our holiday conversations always come back to the great time we had at Pentewan.

PS. I was not so impressed with the beach, it is more shingle than golden sand.

Nigel

Hi BrummyGit,

If I recall you spent a week at St Ives Holiday Village the same time as we were there last year. I think you will find Pentewan to be of at least comparable to St Ives and the pitches to be of better size.

Nigel

Thanks for the comparison - it brings things into a clearer perspective. We liked St.Ives Bay and had no significant complaints but probably wouldn't have it at the top of our list for a return trip. Pitch size was just OK for our Monty 12 plus Day Tent so we should be fine at Pentewan.

Based on what you say, Pentewan sounds great as its proximity to the beach is a massive plus - especially when compared with the hill climbing involved with the beach at St.Ives Bay even if you parked at the beach car park

Thanks again
