I think what has detered us in the past is the cost of their club sites, we have used them as non membes and they still seem expensive even if you are members but after doing quite an extensive site search of the areas we normally escape to at weekends I think we will certainly have to reconsider this as an option for the future

Yes, we don't use the club sites much any more. We stayed at Umberleigh recently but that is because they have all year age concession, don't think you are old enough for that! The other cheaper ones like Bakewell and Ebury Hill don't have loos and showers so wouldn't suit you.

Hi George, only 2, me and husband. Where in Scotland did you find that was cheap? I thought it was quite expensive when we were there 2 years ago.

Mrs Bonce, you're a woman after my own heart- you should try North Wales!  We stayed on 3 different sites in late May/early June and the most we paid for 2 of us + car + tent was £9.28!  The least was £6.  Appealed to all of my Yorkshire instincts!

Hi Ali Kitten, whereabouts in North Wales? I have stayed at Valley of the Rocks on Anglesey, Tyddyn Morthwyl near Criccieth and James's at Ruabon, all quite cheap but not that cheap! Do you use ehu? It's essential to us, and do you know if the sites you used charged more for a caravan than a tent?

This time of year for a site with pool and clubhouse the average is between £30 and £40 per night.

I thought we were paying way too much at trevornick, but their prices are about the same as the other similar sites in the area.

That's why we don't go to those sites, but I know that if you have children a pool and clubhouse are probably essential. The last time we went to Cornwall we didn't book and stopped on a site at Perranporth, £18 per night for a bumpy pitch and useless clubhouse. This time I did my homework and the most we paid was £13.50.

Hi Anne, we don't use ehu ourselves so we didn't take much notice of that or whether prices are different for caravans, but as I was looking for an excuse to down tools for a bit anyway, I'll have a look for you:

Conwy Touring Park, the most expensive, charges more for caravans, but they do ehu: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2759 Great for families but having no kids and a grumpy OH myself, would personally avoid this during school holidays/peak times.

Tanforhesgan Farm, near Harlech, is basic but we loved it, no detailed tariff list on their site but I would infer they charge the same for both, and they do ehu: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6720

The £6 one was in Morfa Nefyn and I think it might have been called Greenacres, but it's not listed on this site and can't seem to find it on google either.  Anyway this site was really lovely and quiet, beautiful location, not far from the beach, the facilities were far better than we had any right to expect for six quid a night (sparkling new shower block) and the owner was really helpful.  But I don't know if they do ehu.  Or how to get in touch with them.  And I'm not just saying that because I don't want anyone else to discover it...

Ali

Thanks! We don't have kids either and my OH is not the most sociable of men! Is the one at Morfa Nefyn a club CL or CS? Not all of them seem to be listed anywhere apart from a website called "Jolly Interesting" which is jolly useful! There is a CS near Whitchurch, Shropshire called Bramblewood Cottage which we particulary like.

We don't use the club house, my kids are a bit old for the kids entertainment, but we do need a pool and an arcade for them in the nights, that usually means there will be a club house as well.

Only just getting the hang of this jargon- I know a CS is a certified site, but what's a CL?  Not that it'll help, because I haven;t the foggiest idea whether the site was either one!

"Jolly Interesting" looks like a wicked website- my tools will remain downed for just a while longer, I think!

Hi Ali,

A CL is a certified location, same as a CS but belongs to the Caravan Club. I need to get my brain in gear as they are for caravans only and you have a tent! If you don't belong to the Camping and Caravan Club then I guess this site just happens to be cheap.
